AmericanThinker ~ Josiah Cantrall
During the recent Fox News and Google presidential debate, Ron Paul opined to the crowd, "You ought to have a right to opt out of the public system if you want." Although he could have been drawing comparisons between Obamacare and European socialized medicine, the congressman was actually referencing America's socialized educational system. It was a brilliant point. Just as the "public option" is merely a different term for socialized medicine, public education is simply a euphemized phrase for socialized education.
In the early 1800s, Horace Mann led a movement to replace America's community and parent-controlled school model with Prussian-style public schools. He believed that free education was a right and demeaned religious institutions that already made education available.
Mann's vision was originally met with strong resistance, as parents were reluctant to cede control of their children's education to government bureaucrats. Ultimately, a compulsory attendance mandate was passed -- not unlike the individual mandate found in Obamacare. Shortly afterward, private schools began to close.

Recently a THSC member was coerced by CPS into signing forms that would allow her children to be academically tested. This family was threatened by CPS and told that their children could be taken away from them if they refused to do so, even though there was no evidence of abuse or neglect. In addition to signing these papers, this family was told that they were required to follow a list of rules and restrictions, such as being a certified teacher among others, in order to homeschool. The information this family was given is false.
After this member family contacted THSC regarding this issue, Tim Lambert wrote a letter to CPS officials, reminding them that they do not have authority over home school families regarding education and cannot legally require home school families to have their children academically tested

Quote of the Week
2 Corinthians 9:10-12 "Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness; you will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God."

Mothers and Daughters
___________
~ Lisa Pennington, 2011 LTC speaker
Growing up in the '70s, it was popular to think boys and girls should be raised the same way. I remember hearing people talk about how the only reason boys and girls are different is because we force it upon them.
Hogwash.
God designed us to be different. Boys will take dolls apart and make weapons. Girls will make G.I. Joe marry Barbie.
We give God's best to our children when we honor His design for the differences between boys and girls. In my post about Mothers and Sons, I shared about giving a boy space to become a man. In the same way, I am teaching my girls to become women.
