Taking the ACT in April kicked off a period of intensity for high school junior Connor Brooks: big tests, big speeches, vacation, and SAT subject tests.
But he started it with a bang. The 17-year-old who's been homeschooled his entire academic career, scored a 36 on the standardized college entrance exam, the highest possible score. He got a 36 on each of the individual sections: English, math, reading and science.

Yet, again, Tim Lambert is fighting to educate authorities who try to impose unlawful requirements on Texas home schoolers. The Texas Department of State Health Services EMS Personnel Certification/Licensure application asks, "Have you attained a high school diploma or GED?"
This question is followed by a description: "Texas Education Agency accredited public or private school. Home schools must have accreditation from TEA or acceptance into a regionally accredited college. If out-of-state, state of Texas equivalency is required."
By requiring home schools to have accreditation from the TEA, the TDSHS is in direct contradiction with Section 51.9241 of the Texas Education Code.

Only one life, 'twill soon be past, only what's done for Christ will last. This excerpt from the poem "Only One Life, Twill Soon Be Past" by C.T. Studd was etched into a wooden plaque that hung in my grandmother's house when I was a child. Long after my grandmother was gone, I discovered that the words were still etched into my memory.
They echo the words of James 4:14 (NIV), ". . . What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." We are reminded by James that our lives are short, with no guarantee that we will have a tomorrow, so we must endeavor to make today count and live our lives in light of eternity. I think the same is true regarding the education of our children, as we endeavor to prepare them for a purpose that exists beyond tomorrow.
I remember vividly the day that we set the old school desk in the dining room and filled it with workbooks, colors, handwriting paper with wide lines, new pencils, and other school supplies.
