FORGING NEW TOURISM PARTNERSHIP
TIAC and Destination Canada Team Up

On June 23, 2015 TIAC and Destination Canada announced a new collaboration agreement to deliver a series of industry engagement events aimed at better connecting with and meeting the needs of Canada's travel and tourism industry with a goal to increase Canada's competitiveness at attracting international travellers

While TIAC and Destination Canada have worked together in the past, this new initiative combines each organization's respective strengths to develop a communications and events program that will deliver information, tools, and techniques to entrepreneurs that is commercially relevant. In other words we intend to gather industry together regularly and provide the news that they can use to improve their businesses.

Under the new agreement, events such as the Tourism Congress, Rendez-vous Canada, GoMedia Canada and Tourism Town Halls will be revamped to ensure that the content helps keep our industry in tune with global trends, market intelligence and is able to maximize Canada's export potential. This new platform will also augment TIAC's efforts to raise the industry's profile among key decision-makers, elected-officials, and media as an important engine of economic growth and job creation.

As we proceed through the implementation of this program, we ask for your continued cooperation and support in responding to any surveys or questionnaires that we send as it is our goal to design a program that meets your needs and priorities.

BEST WISHES TO A RETIRING TOURISM CHAMPION
Honourable Diane Ablonczy Retires

On June 19, 2015, the House of Commons adjourned for the summer and marked the last sitting day for dozens of Members of Parliament who have chosen to seek re-election in the upcoming federal election this October. TIAC would like to honour a very special Parliamentary retiree, the Hon. Diane Ablonczy, Member of Parliament for Calgary Nose-Hill who served as Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism from 2008-2010.

With an unbeaten election streak since 1993 Diane proved to be a tireless champion for the travel and tourism industry and her tenure as Federal Tourism Minister was filled with accomplishments including funding for the Marquee Tourism Events Program and the Locals Know domestic marketing campaigns, the inception of the Federal Tourism Strategy and her cross-Canada summer staycation blog during the 2008 recession.

On behalf of Canada's travel and tourism industry we want to thank Diane for her service and wish her years of health and happiness as she continues to promote and consume Canadian tourism experiences.
