Blog: A Refresher on IRS Cash Reporting Requirements

Any dealer that accepts payments in cash should remember they must file a Form 8300 if he or she receives more than $10,000 from one customer. This even includes payments or installments received that total more than $10,000 in a 12-month period. Survivors of DMS Shifts Tell Their Tales

Talking about the installation of a new dealership management system elicits a colorful list of descriptions from dealers and providers. None sounds too pleasant. Some liken the DMS change to a heart transplant or a knee replacement. Others say it's akin to reading a foreign language or teaching someone how to write with their opposite hand. Offer pay consistency and most employees will latch on, AutoNation Inc. has learned from the rollout of its new pay plan. Last quarter, the pay-plan option took effect at all AutoNation dealerships. It offers salespeople a base salary plus bonuses and incorporates a new scheduling mechanism.

Safety Tech Makes More Wrecks Too Expensive to Fix

Safety features such as lane-departure warning systems and multiple airbags prevent deaths and injuries from vehicle crashes. But they're also driving up the number of vehicles deemed to be total losses following accidents. That's the assessment of Bob Tschippert, senior vice president of underwriter Risk Theory, of Dallas, who said expensive technologies have made vehicle repairs costlier, thus raising the chances of a damaged vehicle being declared a total loss by an insurance company.
