Competent Person for Trenching & Shoring
A CT ROAD MASTER PROGRAM ELECTIVE WORKSHOP
Trenching and Shoring activities are some of the most dangerous in public works. As such, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has very specific guidelines and requirements to ensure the safety of those involved.
This training is designed to satisfy the OSHA requirement that a "competent person" make inspections of excavations and the surrounding work areas to identify situations that could result in hazardous conditions (e.g., possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, or other hazardous conditions), and ensure that corrective measures are taken when necessary.  Using lecture, group discussion and field activities, participants will gain the knowledge they need to make these important decisions for your agency and your crews.
Who Should Attend

This program is designed for state and local personnel who are responsible for job safety or individuals who supervise maintenance and construction operations in confined spaces or excavations. Highway Superintendents, Road Foremen, Crew Leaders and Directors of Public Works are encouraged to attend.
