VISIT ANAHEIM ANNOUNCES 75 MEETINGS BOOKED NEW ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER EXPANDED SPACE AHEAD OF OPENING THIS FALL

ANAHEIM, Calif. (July 26, 2017) - Visit Anaheim today announced 75 definite meetings and conventions have already booked Anaheim Convention Center's (ACC) North building. The new building, which officially opens on Sept. 26, 2017, is the center's seventh expansion, adding 200,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and cementing the Anaheim Convention Center as the largest convention center on the West Coast.

The erection of the ACC North building allows the Anaheim Convention Center to grow with its biggest shows and meet industry demands for space. ACC North allows meeting professionals the flexibility to design unique experiences for their attendees from education sessions, workshops, galas, marketplace connections and networking events. As a result, 75 definite meetings and events have been booked in the new space, including Oncology Nursing Society, Society for Science & the Public and International Society for Technology in Education.

"The addition of ACC North is giving us the opportunity to bring in ore diverse events that might not have considered Anaheim," said Jay Burress, president & CEO, Visit Anaheim. "Ultimately, the increase in event attendees will translate into additional positive economic impact for our local community, adding additional revenue to the City of Anaheim."

With the addition of the new building, Anaheim Convention Center will officially join the "one million square foot club," becoming the 11th largest convention center in the U.S. This latest expansion, the seventh in its 50-year history will grow the convention center to 1.8 million square feet. ACC North will open to the meetings industry on Sept. 26 during a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event will showcase a variety of immersive experiences, highlighting the many uses and exciting capabilities of the expansion's new flexible space.

Hosting an average of nearly one million attendees a year, the Anaheim Convention Center is a vital part of Anaheim's visitor industry and plays a critical role supporting city services for residents, businesses and visitors. Meetings and events utilizing ACC North will result in approximately 1 million room nights for the destination, equaling roughly 1.1 million attendees (numbers are estimated).

With the additional 200,000-square-feet of leasable space and a 10,000-square-foot terrace, the expansion will overlook Katella Avenue and the Disneyland Resort, including nightly fireworks at Disneyland Park. Other features include 25-foot ceilings, 1,350 parking spaces, a climate-controlled pedestrian bridge connection to the center's existing exhibit halls, new loading docks and an improved vehicle flow.

Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort Announces New Program for Families Affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder

The  Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort has introduced a program tailored to support families travelling with children affected by ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). By working with specialists in the field, the program has been designed and customized through specialized staff training, a pre-arrival consultation with families, personalized amenities to meet guests' specific needs, availability of special dietary meals, and the opportunity for the families to avail themselves of specialized babysitting services during their stay.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that 1 in 68 families are affected by this condition and that in the U.S. alone there are approximately 3.5 million people diagnosed with ASD. The lack of understanding and awareness in the general population has created hesitancy among families wishing to travel. The program at the Sheraton Park Anaheim offers a team trained to support the unique sensitivities of the ASD guest and the ability to provide a tailored amenity package assembled by specialists in the field.

"This concept was presented to us by 16-year-old Alexander, a thoughtful young man who has a brother with ASD," said Ian Gee, general manager of the Sheraton Park Hotel. "We embraced his vision recognizing the need for a program of this kind. His brother, Maximillian, was introduced to the hotel team during staff training, and both brothers were ultimately our first guests of this program. We have named our program in honor of Max."
Guests wishing to take advantage of this specialized MAX Program may call 1-800-325-3535 and ask for the MAX Program Rate. A hotel associate will follow up with a personal call to introduce the program details and note specific needs of the family.

The Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort, located at 1855 South Harbor Boulevard, is near world-famous Disneyland® theme parks and adjacent to the Anaheim Convention Center. Surrounded by tropical landscaped grounds, the hotel features a family pool, fitness center, and Park 55 Café serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. With over 28,000 square feet of meeting space, Sheraton Park Hotel offers beautifully appointed indoor and outdoor venues with state-of-the-art facilities and seamless connectivity, making it an unparalleled option for corporate events, meetings, weddings, banquets and more.
