A Call to Landlords and Realtors

With over 1,300 people literally homeless in Fairfax County, the need for affordable housing is apparent.*In an effort to remedy this situation, a coalition of housing and human service providers joined forces to develop a Blueprint for Housing to clarify the real need for housing in our community. Developed in 2011, this Blueprint set a goal of ending homelessness in ten years.

While FACETS is able to assist hundreds of families and individuals in leaving poverty behind

each year, the lack of affordable housing remains a barrier. With the median rent for an apartment in Fairfax County at $1,492.00, an individual must earn $53,712 annually to maintain economic stability.* Individuals we work with like Gordon find it very difficult to obtain positions that offer salaries at that level and so are often forced to sleep in cars, tents or on benches.

"This isn't just happening to me, this is happening to a lot of people. It could even happen to you tomorrow," says Gordon. Gordon, a 66 year old Northern Virginia native, became homeless after acquiring financial obligations he was unable to meet. A Vietnam War veteran and a seasoned carpenter (over 30 years of experience), Gordon never imagined ending up homeless. He describes being homeless as "really rough", but adds, "I've gotten really good at thinking positively".

Update on our Progress
100,000 Homes Campaign

100K Homes Volunteers On July 31st FACETS was awarded a grant which will enable us to provide permanent supportive housing for 18 individuals who are chronically homeless. Modeled after our current housing program for individual adults, the 18 participants will receive intensive in-home case management services from FACETS. Additionally, access to financial, medical and employment resources and life skills courses designed to assist individuals in taking steps towards economic stability will be provided.

Because of the tremendous amount of volunteer support received during the 100,000 Homes Registry Week, over 400 individuals who are homeless were identified with 107 being at high risk of mortality. These efforts have helped to clarify the demand and have played a tremendous role in FACETS securing this grant and in our progress towards ending homelessness in our community.

There is Still Time to Support our Back to School Drive!

Back to School Drive in Full Swing

Back to School You can play a role in helping over 300 children and youth living in poverty in our community start the school year off on the right foot. The summer is winding down and the school year is quickly approaching. But while many of the children and youth we work with are looking forward to rejoining their friends and starting off a new school year, many are also concerned about having the necessary supplies to succeed.

By donating items from our school supply list you will help to alleviate any concerns they face. Please assist us by donating as many items as you can. Click here  for complete details of the our drive.
