COABE NCSDAE Legislative Alert

TAKE ACTION:
INVEST IN ADULT EDUCATION BY SUPPORTING THE
REED-BLUMENTHAL LETTER

Last week the President signed a spending bill that increased funding for adult education to $631 million, showing the power of your hard work and the power of our message. We must continue to work together to reach the level originally authorized in WIOA, and we need your help to do this. Please take action now to support the Reed-Blumenthal "Dear Colleague" letter.

Senators Jack Reed (D-RI) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) have written a "Dear Colleague" letter to the chair and ranking member of the Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee seeking an increase in funding for adult education (see attached letter).

The letter asks that adult education be funded at the FY 2019 level authorized in WIOA or $664.5 million. As a result of the increase last week, in FY 2018 adult education will be funded at $631 million.

The more signatures there are on the letter, the more that Senators Blunt and Murray know that adult education is important to their  colleagues. The more support that is demonstrated for adult  education, the more likely it is that funding will be increased.

Last year 16 Senators signed the letter. Our goal is to get more signatures on this letter than last year. We especially want the letter to demonstrate that adult education has bi-partisan support.

Use our Ignite software to write your Senator urging that he or she sign the Reed-Blumenthal letter, or pick up the phone and call your Senators to tell them that they should sign the letter.

You can call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Senators' offices.

Deadline for Senators to sign-on is COB, Tuesday, April 11.

When you call or write your Senate offices, tell them to find more information or to sign-on they should contact Moira Lenehan at 4-5217,   [email protected] .
