Ocean Acidification: Our oceans are becoming more acidic as they absorb increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide generated from our burning of fossil fuels. Changes in ocean chemistry are already affecting businesses, jobs, and sea life as shell forming animals like oysters, clams, and corals have difficulty building their shells. Oyster farmers in Washington and Oregon lost millions of dollars in 2008 when corrosive seawater killed their oyster larvae.
