Updates on Tobacco21, Housing Code, Biomass
The Springfield Public Health Council held a public hearing on raising the age for tobacco sales to 21 years old. Youth advocates and PVAC Steering Committee members Matt Sadof and Michele Hart testified. A decision is expected at the next Public Health Council meeting in November. PVAC Testimony

PVAC and PHC presented testimony on the MA Sanitary Code regarding Housing at a hearing on October 4. Proposed changes that impact people with asthma include requirement for mechanical ventilation in the bathroom (to reduce mold) and integrated pest management requirements for buildings with 4 or more units. Environmental advocates are asking the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy to co nduct a public hearing on the proposed APS regulations and issue a report with recommendations to DOER to remove or modify the provisions related to woody biomass.
