Sassy Stitches!

Happy Birthday to our sweet Rebekah!  She is our youngest son's girlfriend and we consider her part of our family.  She works at Sassy Stitches a few Saturdays a month and has learned to make quilt tops like a pro!  We love you sweet girl!

The older I get the more I learn that worrying about tomorrow is never productive and regretting yesterday is a waste of time.  We don't live in either place.  We live in the present.  I've often heard that it's called the "present" because it's a gift from God - a fresh new day!  My friend, Cindy, made this embroidery piece for me and I think it's a great reminder to take care of what's going on NOW.  NOW is where we can make a difference and choose joy.  I hope your days are filled with SEW much joy and fun that you can't hardly stand it. And when those tough times do come around, I've found that just a little needle and thread time can calm me down and give me some quiet time to pray and give it all to God.

My oldest son took this awesome picture during our crazy weather last week.  It's a scene between Highlands and Cashiers. And today we're supposed to get above 70 degrees!!  CRAZY!

Have you ever wanted your own barn quilt?  Would you like to display a quilt block on your home, your barn, your deck or in your home?  Just because they are called "Barn" Quilts doesn't mean you have to have a barn to get one!  One of our sweet customer's husbands makes these beautiful quilt blocks.  We have two on display in the shop.  He does an excellent job.  Come by and see the quality workmanship for yourself.  We are providing his contact information in case you are interested.

Remember we are providing opportunities for you to come work on your club projects during the "Sit & Sew"
times this year or if you're not in a club, just come sew!  We are changing this a little bit after some customer feedback.  Regardless of whether you want to do some handwork or sew on your machine, come on either of the two "Sit & Sew" days provided each month and SEW!!! These days have been set aside for you to use our classroom and the supplies while you fellowship with others and work towards completing projects.   BUT . . . YOU MUST RESERVE A SPOT.  We are limiting the number of people to 10 on each of the sewing days so if you are interested you need to call and reserve your spot.  It's totally free!  But we only have room for so many so let us know you're coming and we will let you know if there is still room. You can get into the classroom at 9:45 and sew until 4:00!  WOW!  Staff can answer questions and help you briefly but they will be working on the floor taking care of other business. This is not class time so please be respectful of our staff members. You can order lunch or bring your own. Come sew with us!   Did I mention it's FREE ?!?!?

Sassy Stitches  will be happy to help you select fabrics and gather the Creative Grids tools you need to get ready for workshops or classes. We also have special sales for attendees at local quilting events.

Remember that we carry all of the Creative Grids rulers and tools so call or come by the shop to get all of your supplies! We will be glad to ship them to you if you don't live close by.

Have a wonderful week and come see us!

Remembering Robin
Several customers and all of our staff suffered a tremendous loss when our friend Robin Coggins passed away a little more than two years ago. And of course her family was so very devastated when they lost their mother and wife. Robin was full of life and brought much laughter and joy to all. Robin purchased the top of the line sewing and embroidery machine in June before she passed away in November. The machine is like brand new. She had a wealth of other sewing supplies that any quilter would be thrilled to own. No one in her family sews and they are ready to sell Robin's sewing supplies and have some very nice items for sale.  Here is a list of what is available.
*Like new, top of the line sewing and embroidery machine with iPad
*20th Anniversary Grace Company Quilting Frame w/ machine already attached
*85 Embroidery CD's - Most are Anita Goodesign
*110 Spools of Embroidery Thread
*25 Quilt Books
*Singer Serger
*Over 100 Yards of Quilting Fabric
*17 Rulers/Tools with Stand
Here are some of some of the items:

The total value of all of these items is much more than what the family is asking. Their price for everything listed is $11,000. This includes 2 sewing machines and a serger!  Here are phone numbers where you can reach family members if you have questions or would like to arrange a time to go see these items.

February Class
We haven't added many classes lately because our clubs take up most of our month!  We are offering this wreath class at the request of some folks.  This is another part of the Fold N Stitch Wreath patterns.  The Fold N Stitch patterns have been SO popular. This one is called "Fold and Stitch Blooms" and here are some samples in different fabrics.

Date:  Tuesday, February 28
Time:  10:00 - 12:00
Fee:  $20 (plus supplies)
Paul Johnson
Mr. Paul Johnson is well-known for his beautiful wood work.  He recently made me a few pieces that I love!  I asked for a quilt ladder to display quilts and also a ruler keeper.  Here's what he made.

Paul left a book at the shop of several of his creations.  He can also create a custom piece if you have something in mind.  I'm a little partial to his sewing furniture but he can make much more.  Stop in or call the shop to get his information.  His work is truly beautiful!
Show & Tell
We got in this pretty civil war fabric this week and look at this selvedge!  It includes a Vincent Van Gogh quote!!!!!

This cute quilting panel came in a week later than the companion fabrics.  I love all the quilt sayings and Linda made us a sample!

We got in these sweet 30's this week!
Louise shared her lovely quilt with us.  (That's Carol hiding!)
Debby shared some of her "Be My Neighbor" blocks.  WOW!

Ryan's Case for Smiles
Our charity focus at Sassy Stitches is Ryan's Case for Smiles. This is an organization that provides fun pillowcases for sick children .  ALL of our donations will be used in Asheville, NC at Mission Children's Hospital. I volunteered for this charity for several years and have personally delivered pillow cases to kids at Mission Children's Hospital and assure you it brings great joy to sick children to pick out a fun pillowcase. When you read the story about Cindy and her son, Ryan, you will understand what a great cause this is. It's the perfect charity for anyone who sews! Here is a link to the organization's website.
We will accept pillowcases, fabric donations for making pillow cases and monetary donations. If you choose to make pillowcases, there are tips on the website (see link above) about making them. The volunteers who take the pillowcases wash them before delivery. Something so simple as a fun pillowcase really does bring a smile to a sick child.  THANKS!
