It's hard for me to believe that March is already here - 2016 is off and running! I was once told that when you start to see birds-a-flight & robins returning, it's a good sign that spring is right around the corner, which, with the pleasant weather we have had lately, makes me think there is some truth to that. I'm pretty sure neither Punxsutawney Phil nor Jimmy the Groundhog of Sun Prairie saw their shadows this year (nor was anyone bitten), furthering my hope of warmer weather! And if spring is around the corner that means that the Chamber recently wrapped up the 2016 Annual Celebration - "Sip, Sample & Socialize".
This year's "64
th" Annual Celebration was an enormous success. Over 470+ attendees, 20 food and beverage vendors (all Middleton Chamber of Commerce members by the way!), 95 Silent Auction Packages, 6 amazing paddle raffle packages, and an incredible energy level in the room. There are so many people to thank for this event's success. We could not make any of this possible without the profound support from the 21 member organizations who stepped up to sponsor the event, the planning committee, Chamber staff members, and volunteers! YOUR Chamber thanks you all! I also need to thank Lisa DuChateau directly for scouting and booking the music for the evening, Wheelhouse - they were great! I already can't wait until next year's event, when we celebrate #65!
Since spring is a time for us all to look forward, I can assure you that the Chamber will do the same.
We continue to have strong membership in 2016, and have added some excellent member engagement opportunities that can expand our interaction with each other. We have strong leadership from our members to make events like Get Moving Middleton, Ask the Expert, Economic Development Briefing, Ribbon Cuttings and everyone's favorite, Business Social Hours, interactive and informative. In addition, we have added opportunities like Lunch & Learns, Micro Groups, Business Trolley Tours, and more. I would challenge all of you to take advantage of any of these programs, as they are all included in your membership!
I can also assure you that the Board of Directors continues to work hard to move forward with Project 2020. Including the above mentioned initiatives, we have many new opportunities evolving this year that I am proud to oversee. We will be hosting a Business Bar Camp (in connection with Forward Fest) on August 22
nd, a Family Friendly Night out at the Madison Capitols Hockey game on April 8
th, a Job Fair with the Middleton High School on April 20
th, and have partnered with MCPASD to incorporate the Inspire-Madison Region program - better connecting Education with Business - in which all members should participate. In addition we have been gathering and mining hours of video interaction of events and programs in an effort to streamline our "Virtual" presence for members: Stay tuned... literally!
One other fairly significant change: after 30 years in one location, we'll be moving the Chamber office soon! With the upcoming demo of T Wall Enterprises' Old Middleton Centre for their vastly improved Middleton Center, we're close to locking down a new location. More to follow, but we'll be reaching out to members to address all of our needs.
Change brings a lot of opportunity, I hope to see many of you at one of the many opportunities available, and challenge you to try something new in 2016.
Cheers!
Josh
