Police Arrest Robbery Offenders

Dear Neighbors,
The Chicago Police Department arrested two violent offenders wanted for multiple robberies.
Walter Porter and Amanda Brown of Calumet City, were arrested on August 14, on the 1100 block of W. Fullerton Avenue.
They have been charged with f
our felony counts of Armed Robbery,
one felony count of Resisting Arrest and one felony count of UUW (Unlawful Use of Weapon), Poss/Carry/Conceal Weapon.
The individuals are linked to the armed robbery of two victims on the 2600 block of N. Bosworth Ave (2nd Ward), the
1800 block of W. Berenice Ave (44th Ward) and the 2800 block of N. Greenview Ave (44th Ward). These two offenders were arrested in our neighborhood, showing that crime knows no Ward boundaries.

Crime Prevention Tips
These public safety reminders are quite basic but police encourage the following:
- Stay off your cell phone as much as possible when walking
- Put your location services On and Install the "find my phone" app. If your phone is taken, police on the scene have the capability to allow you to log into those apps from their police cars for quick phone tracking.
- Call 911 immediately and provide a detailed description of any suspicious people including any vehicle description and license plate information.

Join our office and the Park West Community Association (PWCA) at a community meeting to review a proposal by the Fat Shallot to operate a restaurant with an Incidental Liquor License at 2468 N. Clark St.
Our office will be present at this meeting to monitor the discussion, take notes, and record your feedback. Representatives of the restaurant ownership will also be present to outline their operation as well as answer questions regarding this proposed venue.

Lincoln Avenue Closed from Fullerton to Belden
for Crane Removal
Removal of the Lincoln Common north tower crane began
Monday, August 20th, and will continue until 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 23rd
. Should weather cause delays, work will continue through Friday, August 24.
During this time, Lincoln Avenue will be closed from Fullerton Avenue south to the main entrance of the Lincoln Common parking garage. North/South traffic will be rerouted to Halsted Street.
The Lincoln Common parking garage will remain open and can be accessed via the south entrance.

Lake Shore Drive Repaving and LaSalle Bridge Repair
August 21 - October 6
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT)
has restricted LaSalle Drive to one lane traveling in each direction at North Avenue east to the Lake Shore Drive
to begin work to repair the LaSalle Bridge (the
bridge that carries Lake Shore Drive over LaSalle Drive).
Starting on Monday, August 27, work will be expanded to to repave Lake Shore Drive between Monroe and Grand. This will require reducing Lake Shore Drive to two lanes in each direction from LaSalle to Monroe for the duration of the project.
In an effort to complete work before the annual Chicago Marathon, the Chicago Department of Transportation has an accelerated schedule, with around-the-clock lane closures and crews working double shifts.

Chicago Triathlon
SouthBound LSD Closed

This year's Chicago Triathlon will feature a new bike course which will require
all Southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive Southbound to be closed between Hollywood and I-55 from 5:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Sunday.

DePaul University's Neighborhood Parking Program
DePaul University is offering
free parking permits to campus neighbors living in the area bounded by Altgeld, Armitage, Halsted and Wayne Streets. These parking permits start September 1st, 2018 to August 31st, 2019. The permits allow parking between 4 PM and 8 AM weekdays and all day on weekends in the Clifton Garage and in Student Campus Surface lots.
To apply, complete the 2018-2019
Area Resident Parking Permit Application form. You must present two forms of identification with your current address (driver's license, state of Illinois ID, City Key) and another proof of residence such as a utility bill with your name and current address.
Bring or mail the Application and proof of residency to the DePaul University Parking Services Office located at 2320 N. Kenmore, Room 177, Chicago, IL. 60614. Office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, with extended hours of 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM on Monday, August 27th to Friday, August 31st.

In addition to the FREE program, area residents within the same boundaries may purchase a 24 pass to park in the Clifton Garage for $370/year. More details

Vote By Mail Now Available
Chicago voters can now apply for mail ballots for the General Election on November 6th. Chicago voters can request their mail-in ballot
online
. Ballots will be mailed in early October.
The deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot is
November 1st
.
By law, any mail ballot postmarked November 7th or later cannot be counted, which might include ballots slipped in the mail on the afternoon or evening of Election Day, November 6th.
