Comptroller announces tax filing extension for Ellicott City Businesses
|
|
In response to the major flood that devastated Historic Ellicott City, Comptroller Franchot announced a 30-day tax filing extension for businesses that were affected or incurred damages from the storm. Businesses have until September 19th to file business-related taxes that are due in August, and penalties and interests will be waived for taxpayers who file their taxes by the extended due date. Franchot announces Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week: August 14-20, 2016
|
|
Comptroller Franchot announced that from Sunday, August 14th through Saturday, August 20th, Marylanders can shop for clothing and footwear and save big by not paying the state's 6% sales tax on eligible purchases below $100. During the past two weeks, the Comptroller visited retail stores in Takoma Park, Baltimore City, Frederick, Towson, and Easton to promote the annual tax-free week and encourage Marylanders to support local businesses that fuel our state's economy.

Bipartisan trip to Frederick aims to boost small businesses
Comptroller Franchot was joined by Governor Larry Hogan in Frederick to encourage Marylanders to support local and small businesses, particularly during tax-free week. Comptroller participates in National Night Out festivities in Baltimore

Comptroller Franchot visited communities throughout Baltimore City to participate in National Night Out parties, cookouts, and gatherings. The Comptroller thanked police officers, firefighters, and first responders for their valor and sacrifice. Franchot invites DNC Chairwoman to visit Cambridge
Comptroller Franchot sent a letter to Interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile
inviting her to visit Cambridge after a high-ranking staffer made a disparaging comment about the historic Eastern Shore town. The Comptroller, who has repeatedly visited Cambridge during his nearly decade of service as the state's chief fiscal officer, noted that "Cambridge is on the rise and has made tremendous strides in rebuilding its economy" after being hit hard by the Great Recession. Franchot presents 2016 Comptroller's Cup to Old Westminster Winery

Comptroller Franchot presented the 2016 Comptroller's Cup to Old Westminster Winery, a Carroll County wine producer that won this year's
Best in Show award for their 2014 Malbec. The annual contest, held by the Maryland Wineries Association in June, also recognized 7 wineries across the State for
Best in Category awards. At the award ceremony, the Comptroller thanked wineries for the economic activity they generate for the State, and for adopting natural conservation practices in their vineyards. As the state's chief alcohol regulator, the Comptroller also pledged his continued commitment to working with stakeholders to grow Maryland's burgeoning wine industry.
