Workers will receive an increase in their Earned Income Tax Credit for tax year 2017. The Earned Income Tax Credit provides a tax credit and/or refund to people who earn low to moderate wages. Workers receive the credit after filing their 2017 taxes.

Workers who qualify for the federal EITC also qualify for a state EITC which is currently 15% of the federal amount (up from 12.5% for tax year 2016). Click below to get updated information and tax forms for the following tax credits:

For help filing your state and federal taxes visit a local  Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site.  There are various VITA sites across RI offering free help filing taxes and applying for tax credits to residents who earned $54,000 or less in 2017. 

DACA Renewals Extended:  

Dorcas International Hosting Free Renewal Clinics 

Anyone who currently holds or has previously held DACA status (even if that status is now expired), is eligible to apply for renewal. USCIS is still not accepting initial requests for DACA status from people who have never had it.

Those who are eligible to renew their DACA status should do so immediately. Because USCIS is accepting renewal applications under a court order, it is unclear how long this window of opportunity will remain open.

Beginning today, Dorcas International Institute of RI is holding daily walk-in DACA clinics to respond to the community need. Applicants should bring their work permit and passport to walk-in hours. No appointment is necessary.

 

All fees ($495 USCIS filing fee and $100 DIIRI service fee) will be covered by funds previously donated by the Rhode Island Foundation in September 2017. DACA renewal applicants pay nothing.

Special Enrollment Period for HealthSource RI 

Customers who applied for 2018 coverage during HealthSource RI open enrollment but had trouble completing their application or making their payment by the December 31st deadline should contact HealthSource RI. 

These customers may be able to finish their application for 2018 coverage if they contact HealthSource RI between now and January 23rd.
