October is Bullying Prevention Month. Tell us about your #UnityDay2017 activites, and wear orange!
In addition to going pink for breast cancer awareness, October is also the month to go orange for anti-bullying awareness. October 25 is Unity Day, a day dedicated to taking a stance against bullying. Schools are encouraged to host Unity Day programs and activities to get students involved in creating supportive and safe school communities. Check out some inventive Unity Day ideas here ! If your school is hosting something cool for Unity Day, please send us a heads up so we can consider it for the SCS Newsroom!
It's time to Read for The Record! Is your school ready? On October 19 , elementary schools all over the country will read together to celebrate literacy. Schools around our District are planning exciting activities to make this record-breaking reading event one to remember for our students. If you have cool activities or programs planned for your Read for the Record day, share them with us for a chance to be featured in the SCS Newsroom. Supplemental STEM curriculum is available for middle school students! Find out how to get it for your class!
Learning Blade is a supplemental STEM curriculum that is available for FREE for all 6-8 students. There is no extra time required from teachers to connect the new lessons to current subject areas or college and career standards. Learning Blade has done that for you! You can also track students' progress as they work through the online lessons, by standard and student. To get Learning Blade in your classroom, check out the PD session ( PLZ #14774) on October 26 to learn more about how it works!
Get your science on! Be a Science Olympiad coach!
Register for the the 2017 West Tennessee Science Olympiad Coaches Workshop. This year's workshop will be held at Christian Brothers University on Saturday, October 21 . Come out to network with current and prospective coaches and coach helpers while learning about Science Olympiad teams and events in West Tennessee. Check out the details here !
Don't sleep your fall break away! Tour jets and helicopters at Naval Air Orientation 2017!
If your students are looking for cool activities to do during fall break, remind them to check out the Naval Air Orientation on October 12 . Students, parents and teachers are invited to tour front line Naval aircraft, vintage warbirds and a Coast Guard fast-response boat. Pilots and crew members will be available for questions about their duties and experiences and how to get involved in Naval Aviation.
