Kindergarten teachers, the new report card assessment handbook is here!
In an effort to keep SCS instruction aligned with the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standards, there have been changes made to the
Kindergarten Report Card and Assessment (KRCA) handbook this year, including extensive updates in Mathematics. Take a moment to review the 2018-19 KRCA handbook and get ahead of the game on assessing your students.
Holiday Mail for Heroes is back, and we're amping up this year's campaign with a contest!
Each year, our students help local veterans and public servants ring in the holidays with cheer through the Red Cross' Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. While it's still a little early to think about the holiday season, it'll be here before we know it! Help us reach our District goal of 20,000 cards by October 19. That's a little over 100 cards per school. We're counting on art teachers, before- and after-school programs, librarians and of course our classroom teachers to help us collect student-made cards. To sweeten the deal, the 10 teachers who submit the most cards will win a SCS swag bag and the top five will get swag PLUS a bluetooth speaker! Get all the contest rules and card making info here.
Get your students involved in the election process, and help them earn some cash!
Ok, we know that headline was
super sketchy. Elections and cash giveaways don't always mix but, when you're a student in Tennessee, they do! The TN Secretary of State's office wants to help you
teach students about local, state and national voting processes, branches of government and students' roles as community stakeholders. Check out the
website for age-appropriate lesson plans, student mock election registration and writing prompts for the
2018 Civic Engagement Essay Contest. Winners in each grade level will earn a scholarship valued up to $500 and a trip to tour the State Capitol.

Seriously, that strange survey link in your email isn't spam. It's how to vote SCS as a top employer!
You may have received a weird email in the past few days about an employee survey. First, we want to give you guys kudos for alerting us to "suspicious" emails. While the
email doesn't look the part, we assure you that it's totally legit! If you haven't already, take a few minutes to complete the survey and share your experiences about working at SCS. The results from this survey are being collected and compiled by a third party administrator managing the 2018 Commercial Appeal Top Places to Work. Your feedback on this survey will either help get SCS named on the 2018 Workplaces list or give us some insight on how we can make SCS a better place for employees.
