Issue 10 | Feb 6th, 2018
Dear Friends,

As a candidate for your County Executive, I have been spending many early mornings and late evenings meeting residents across our wonderful County, so I can better understand your needs, concerns and desires.  During working hours, however, it’s important that you know I remain focused on my day job, serving you as State’s Attorney of Prince George’s County.

Last week, in this capacity, I was in Annapolis testifying before the Maryland House and Senate on two critical pieces of legislation that affect the well-being -- and in fact, the very lives -- of our children. Both of these bills, Senate Bill 584 and House Bill 500, concern the reporting of actions that harm, or may potentially harm children, and making sure the appropriate authorities are informed as soon as humanly possible.

While my job involves dealing with unpleasant situations every day, the most horrific of these involve crimes against children. There is nothing more important to us as parents, teachers, law enforcement professionals, neighbors and community members, than protecting and nurturing our children, something we have a sacred responsibility to do, because our collective future depends on them.

This week, we mark a holiday to celebrate our loved ones. I ask you all to extend that love to the children in our community as well. Take a moment to learn more about Senate Bill 584 and House Bill 500, as well as how they will help salve lives.

As we address violence against our children, we must also understand how the culture of violence has spread among our children. Last week, we there was a stabbing and a shooting at our high schools, both committed by students. While we will aggressively prosecute those responsible , I also commit to you that we will continue to do all we can to teach our children how to cope with stress and other difficulties without resorting to violence.

Please contact your local legislators and lend your support to cherishing our children by keeping them safe and secure, and giving them every opportunity to grow into healthy, productive, contributing members of our community and world.

Sincerely yours,

Angela
