For the last 20 years, I have been involved with public schools in our county, from adopting one as a brand new prosecutor in 1997, to serving as the Education Liaison in the County Executive’s Office. I have also been able to work with students and teachers as State’s Attorney with our anti-truancy initiative, our Teen Court Program and speaking at career days, graduations and many other events. I have gotten to know many principals, teachers and students that I am proud to call friends.
Earlier this month, I was proud to announce the education policy that I will champion and drive if elected to serve as your County Executive.
focuses on three core areas:
o Supporting our teachers
o Ensuring that our students are ready for school and for life beyond our classrooms
o Engaging parents to ensure that they are actively involved with their children’s education
I believe this policy will ensure our teachers have the resources they need to effectively work with our students, our parents have access to resources that will allow them to be more involved with their children’s education and our students come to school ready to learn in an environment that is conducive to doing so.
We must ensure that we retain the great teachers we have, while continuing to strengthen their ranks with the best and brightest as they prepare to enter the field. We must also bring teachers' salaries in line with our neighboring jurisdictions so we remain competitive. By reducing bureaucracy and streamlining processes, we will be able to redirect funds targeted to administration into the classrooms and our teachers and students.
You all believe, as I do, that our children are our future. Please join me in ensuring their success, and the success of our entire community, by supporting this policy. Help us to get your friends, family and neighbors onboard by sharing my messages through word of mouth -- and your social media channels. Follow mine regularly to learn more about my plans.
All my best,
