Ontario is launching a new program to help high school students from grades nine to 12 in Windsor and across the province learn about entrepreneurship. Ontario's High School Entrepreneurship Outreach program will help encourage local students to develop their entrepreneurial talents by providing funding to community-based organizations to help them share their expertise. Windsor's Downtown Business Accelerator Centre is the first recipient of program funding and will receive $171,000 to help students gain valuable skills and experience. Read more.

The Ford Moment for Windsor-Essex Youth

(Blog by: Irek Kusmierczyk) One-hundred-and-ten years ago, Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company of Canada in Windsor, Ontario. In time, other companies followed such as Chrysler and General Motors to accelerate the conversion of Windsor from an agrarian community to the Automotive Capital of Canada. Yet, there was little about our city's transition that was predetermined or predestined. It took an understanding of the long-term trends in manufacturing-as well as a realistic assessment of the risks, assets and opportunities-in order to make the bold decision to invest time and resources in this particular spot on the Canadian side of the Detroit River, at this particular time and in this particular industry. Much like the fictional Star Trek replicator, 3D printers use digital schematics to create three-dimensional objects such as medical products or even 3D printed guns. However, as we saw in the early 2000's with the emergence of file sharing platforms like Napster, the law is often reactive and slow to catch up to new technologies. Of particular concern with 3D printing is the risk of hobby enthusiasts and do-it-yourselfers contravening intellectual property law. In fact, some examples of this have already been seen. Read more.
