Happy New Year from Courageous Sailing

Ahoy!
If you're anything like we are, this winter has been torture. If only we'd known it was going stay this warm---we would have kept on sailing for another two or three months!

Already, we're planning ahead for Spring and Summer 2012, and you probably should start thinking about a few of these things, too.

Below, you'll find some more information on how to join a sailing team at your high school, apply for the Instructor-in-Training Program, and get a paying job this summer---if you're old enough!

If you or your parents have any questions, feel free to email or call me directly. Hope to see you all on the water again soon!

DID YOU KNOW?
You can sail competitively for your High School!
Sailing is one of the fastest growing sports at public and private high schools in the Mass Bay area. Odds are, your school might already have a team, and you don't even know it!  Teams usually compete in the spring, beginning in late March. Sometimes there are also Fall recreation programs.

If you go to:
  • Boston Latin School
Boston Latin has had a sailing team for over 10 years. Practices are held at Courageous in Charlestown, and the team is coached by our very own Dave & Cha from the Courageous Adult Program.  If you're interested in trying out for the team this spring and have questions, email Dave at dave@courageoussailing.org.
  • Any other Boston Public High School
Last year, we started a team for all Boston Public School students, charter school and home-school kids included.  That's right, it doesn't matter what high school you go to, you're welcome to join this team.  This team also practices at Courageous Sailing, and is coached by Courageous instructors.  No racing experience is necessary.  All you need is a love for the water and sailing, and lots of enthusiasm!  If you're interested in joining the team this spring and have questions, email Kate at kate@courageoussailing.org.
  • A private or suburban public high school
Not all suburban and private schools having sailing teams, but lots of them do.  Check out the websites for Mass Bay League and Inter-Scholastic Sailing Association to see if your school has a team or to find out how you can start a team at your own school.
