Action Alert: Congress now attempting to funnel public funds to churches through FEMA

Congress has introduced S. 1823 and HR 2405 : a set of bills intended to force FEMA to disgorge taxpayer funds to churches for post-hurricane repairs.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, including those involved with religious institutions. However, the so-called "Federal Disaster Assistance Nonprofit Fairness Act" is a violation of a fundamental constitutional protection. The government cannot use its coercive taxing power to force citizens to fund houses of worship.

AZ's Senator Flake and Representative Franks have each signed on to the bills.

It is important that all Arizonans contact Senator Flake, and that all Congressional District 8 constituents contact Representative Flake.

Let them know that regardless of natural disaster, there is never a time when it is appropriate for the government to directly fund religious institutions.
