Live over YouTube - what makes tonight's webcast special?
When Landmark College in Putney scheduled a talk by Dr. Temple Grandin, the renowned autism advocate, organizers knew there wouldn't be space enough for everyone who'd want to attend. BCTV regularly records Landmark College speakers in the Academic Speaker Series for broadcast on Channel 8, but this is our first request for a live webcast. From the Landmark Communications office:

As expected, interest in Dr. Grandin's visit has been very high. Two days after Landmark College opened registration, all the tickets for members of the public had been reserved, and there was a substantial waiting list.

Landmark College set aside the majority of tickets for their students, faculty, staff, and alumni, because Dr. Grandin's work and the topic of her talk, "Different Kinds of Minds," are of such great importance to their community of "students who learn differently." Landmark College offers two- and four-year degrees to students with learning disabilities (such as dyslexia), ADHD, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Dr. Grandin is arguably the world's most famous person on the autism spectrum and is a powerful advocate for embracing a diversity of thinking and learning styles.

The webcast is made possible due to two recent developments:

  • High internet speeds at Landmark delivered by Sovernet's fiber network.
  • Google Apps for Nonprofits, which gives BCTV an ad-free YouTube channel for programs of any length.

The link below will go live at 7 PM at the start of Dr. Grandin's talk, and will be viewable on-demand as soon as the talk is over. (Please note it will not be live on our cable channels.)

Democracy Now! moves to a new time
Due to rising costs, we are changing the way we receive Democracy Now which affects when we can get it on the schedule. Starting immediately, each weekday's show will be broadcast nightly at 7:00 PM, and again the next morning at 8:00 AM. This is a slight change from the current schedule of 8 AM & 8 PM and gives the show a more convenient evening viewing time.
Upcoming Board Meeting
The next BCTV Board meeting will be Wednesday, September 17 at 6 PM in the Brattleboro Municipal Center. Please call the office at 257-0888 for details. Board Meetings are open to the public. Find out more about the BCTV Board.
