The First Mate
Fills In!
Either way its still
Useless Information that we all need to know!

Hello PHamily!

This is a first for me, I guess thats why they call me the First Mate... Usually this is Yogi's section. I know I have big shoes to fill here, fortunately we wear the same size. Under the circumstance I will rise up to the occasion for him and put together the best intro I can. I'd like to start with condolences for Yogi and Lynn and my prayers are with you both. Very sorry for your loss.

I just released the 20th Anniversary edition of Tequila Times a few days ago and am happy to get back on track with the release of our April Edition in time for tonights social. Last months Anniversary party was something else. I am so happy to have been a part of the celebration and enjoyed every minute of the music, drinks and PHriends. I hope everyone found some time (30 Minutes) to view the video we had playing at the Anniversary party, there were some excellent moments captured over the years. I have provided a link here if anyone missed it. It was also awesome to see the check showing the amount of money we have raised for charities over the last 20 years. Great job to everyone.

Lets keep Partying with a Purpose!

I don't know about you but I am 100% ready to Escape to Margaritaville this Saturday. The Weather is Here... 80 degrees in the forecast for the weekend. This should be another party to remember. I think the bus is gonna be Trop Rockin the whole way to NYC. RMH is coming up in May, Cornhole Tournament in June, Jakie Invitational in August. Kim and I will open Mother Ocean at the end of the month and will have a few gatherings over the summer. Look for your invitations in the Tequila Times.
Hard work pays off down the road, Drinking Beer pays off right now!

Crusin back in Tequila Times

Everything Salty, by Ahlea Isabella, published July 2011

A few things I’ve learned… You know you’re a true Parrott Head when 1)You begin as a 12 year old Parakeet 2) You know Jimmy Buffett lyrics before Brittney Spears lyrics 3)You know all the members of the Coral Reefer Band 4) Consider Key West as the homeland and 5) Lose track of how many JB concerts you have attended. For those that have yet to experience, or accept, the salty way of life here are a few reasons why you should really get to know a Parrott Head:

1. We make excellent companions: EHarmony, Match.com, Speed Dating; no this isn’t the Jeopardy category, Awkward Situations I Put Myself In” Sure, you can sign on to meet local singles that “have a great sense of humor and am really focused on my career right now.” OR, you could go to a Jimmy Buffett concert where 90% of the individuals there dress up in business casual five days a week from 9-5 in order to pay bills on time, AND still appreciates the advice of a 60 year old songwriter in board shorts and takes no shame in wearing hula skirts, screaming “Fins to the left”. So, scrolling through the profile of online dating, or strolling through the Margarita-filled tailgates at a Jimmy Buffett concert? Margarita with two straws please!

2) We love awkward situations: When we come to a housewarming party/bridal shower/birthday/Easter/Christmas/Memorial Day/Flag Day and so on… We always bring Jose (changing to fit the times GEORGE) we bring George. That’s right, we’re the ones that show up prepared to dust of the blender and grind up some tequila, ice, salt and lime. Honestly, what awkward social gathering has not been improved by a little George, Malibu or minty Mojito?

3) We make music! We listen to music, and many make music. As Jimmy Buffett fans, we’re adult enough to admit that, yeah, “Math Sucks” isn’t exactly a great song to have on your resume. So, to make up for the very few not- so –necessary tunes, Parrot Heads around the world have made their own! Check in with any local Parrot Head group and you will instantly learn about incredible Trop-Rockers like Tropical Soul, Scott Kirby, Peter Mayer, Nadira Shakoor, John Frinzi… the list goes on.

4) We don’t judge: We don’t judge you if the only Jimmy Buffet song you know is Margaritaville because honestly, we love when we have more bodies to help us chant “Salt, Salt!”. We do, however, slip you a non-alcoholic beverage or warm beer if you say “Jimmy Buffett? I don’t like that guys…songs? Oh yeah, I heard that one, that Margarita and Cheeseburger song” Sure everyone has their own taste but Sir Buffett has 30 albums (90% not including the word Margarita, tequila, flip flop or Cheeseburger in them- I’m sure you can find something to your taste.

5. We give back & guarantee a good time. No one ever had a bad time at a Parrot Head Phlocking. Some might use words “immature, “crazy, tacky” or “drunks” to describe Parrot Heads. Well we prefer “Partying with a Purpose”. Just like everyone else we like to work hard and play hard. There are 239 Parrot Head chapters ( remember written in 2011)in the United States who devote themselves to giving bac to the community first and celebrating afterwards. Check out the incredible community service PH stats ( www.phip.com ). If you ever make your way out to a Parrot Head tailgate, fundraising concert, community service project, monthly meeting, etc, we won’t force you to wear a coconut bra, shark fin hat and make you drink a fruity umbrella –topped beverage, but we will make sure you have a great time and listen to great music.

FINALLY, Yes, we are the people your parents warned you about, and yes you well be too.

BUFFET NEWS!
Review of The Margaritaville Cookbook

Margaritaville’s concept chef Sernaglia and James Beard Award–winner Turshen ( Small Victories ) offer 125 official Margaritaville-brand recipes that are festive and easy to prepare. Perfect for entertaining, the recipes are mashups of global tropical cuisines with “Gulf Coast Florribean roots.” Seafood lovers will delight in the appetizers, with options for crab, shrimp, oysters, octopus, and conch (ceviches and frittered). Soups and salads include gazpachos, seared tuna, and chowders. New Orleans muffaletta, blackened fish, and stuffed burgers are hearty sandwiches (and, yes, there’s a recipe for Cheeseburgers in Paradise), joined by several steak options, a jambalaya, and guava-glazed baby back barbecued ribs for mains. Along with sides of cilantro lime coleslaw and lobster hash browns topped with jalapeño cheese, there are rum, coconut, and tropical fruit–laced desserts such as Crispy Bananarama, a deep-fried taco strudel. Not surprisingly, the book contains several cocktail and margarita options. Jimmy Buffett fans will undoubtedly enjoy this cookbook, and even non-parrotheads will find lots of solid, go-to recipes.

CRASHER'S MONTHLY CONCOCTION

"There's Booze in the Blender
& Soon it will Render,
That Frozen Concoction
that helps me hang on!"
Crashbury Egg Shots

This one is more about the presentation then whats in it, but either way its a good one to add to your April bar recipes.

Recipe

  • Cadbury Eggs
  • Bailey's Irish Cream
  • Fire Ball

Directions:
Warm the blade of a knife and cut off just the top of your cadbury eggs. Remove the filing to hollow out the chocolate egg.

In a Shaker add ice, the Cadbury egg filing, Bailey's, Fireball and shake vigorously.

Pour the chilled contents into your easter egg shot glasses. Top with chocolate shavings from the part removed.

This also works with hollowed out Easter Bunnies. Don't have any? Give me a call I'll bring some over. Let's Party!
