CAPTAIN YOGI'S USELESS
BUT IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Captain Yogi’s Useless BUT important Information

Hello Everybody!

What a month February was, kudos to our First Mate Scott and the gang at The Cru Pizza and Deli for pulling off a great February Social, which could of never happened due to the unfortunate sudden closing of Gullify's.

I’m actually writing this while golfing in Myrtle Beach, SC this month. Good place for golf but nothing like the beach in Key West, even if it is a postage stamp comparatively!

Of course we did the mandatory drinks at Margaritaville and for the first time, a Landshark Grill, just a smaller version of Margaritaville if you ask me. We talked a lot about what concerts we had seen (They were showing old concerts on the big screens) and that got me thinking, what attracted me to Jimmy Buffet and what his attitude and persona is all about.

It was a dark and stormy night, it really was! I had listened to Buffett music for a while but didn’t know what it was really all about. Some friends convinced me to go to a Buffett show at Merriweather Post Pavilion, that’s dating myself. I didn’t really know what to expect since it was my first concert of this type. Well, let me tell ya, once we got in the parking lot, I could see what it was all about, from the grass skirts, coconut bras (mostly on guys... ICK!). As time progressed with the tailgate, the one thing that really struck me was how everybody got along, no fights, no screaming at each other, just a bunch of people having a good time. Then it was onto the concert, that’s where the dark and stormy night comes in. Even though it was pouring down rain, I believe that was the most entertaining concert I have been too, not just the music, but the people and the way they acted,. They embraced the rain and took the concert to another level. I was hooked!

It’s funny how small of a world it is. After meeting Lynn and going to even more shows than I’d gone to before, we realized how close we were to running into each other at so many concerts, especially in Manassas, because I remember seeing the PHIAP sign and watching the Tequila Regatta.

Now we’re older (but not grown up), don’t see as many shows, but we will always enjoy the friendships from the club and the many friends we met at shows we had been too and that’s why I believe I was hooked, it’s more of a lifestyle than just an event!

I hope everyone has a great start to the spring and hope to see you at all the great events we have planned this year!!

Pools Open! (In two months)

Cruisin' Back in
Tequila Times

GOING BACK IN TEQUILA TIMES.

Written by Former Capt Lynn 12-2001

When did you find your Caribbean Soul? Was it the first time you saw the ocean? Or the first time you heard Jimmy Buffett sing about the green of the gulf meeting the blue of the sea? I think we were all born with an extra Caribbean soul gene, the question is, when did you find your.

For me, it started in 1989 when I read “Tales from Margaretville”. That is when I read a little story called “Take Another Road”. This is a short story about Tully Mars, a cowboy from Heartache Wyoming. He leaves Wyoming on an adventure through the Midwest, down the Mississippi to New Orleans, the gulf coast, Key West, Cancun and Belize City.  The story talks about the chill he gets when he rides through Custer’s battlefield. The dismay by the overkill of his hero Mark Twain in Hannibal Missouri, the sense of being fenced in that Elvis must have felt at Graceland, the music and food of New Orleans and finally seeing the Gulf of Mexico for the first time at Dauphin Island.  He tasted the salt air, listened to the waves saw the vastness and power of the water and finally the wetness as he jumps in the gulf. All of his senses are stirred.

Do you remember the first time you saw the ocean? Remember the feeling you got?  Tully continues on to Key West and beyond.  He knew this were he was suppose to be.  His Caribbean soul took hold and never left.

I recently picked up “Tales from Margaretville” again. I reread “Take Another Road” and yes it enhanced my Caribbean soul. It makes me want to return to New Orleans and Key West, to think about a trip to Belize and the islands.

Do yourself a favor, pick the book up again and escape with Tully Mars and back and enhance your own Caribbean SOUL.

UPDATE:

Since this was written in 2001, I have felt my Caribbean Soul  often, in Key West, St John, St Thomas, Aruba, Mexico and lots of other islands cruise ships and beaches.  Once you have found “YOUR” Caribbean Soul, you never lose it; you just visit it as often as you can.
