Terra College Foundation
         Spring 2016  Newsletter

Dear Terra State Alumni & Friends,

The Terra College Foundation has begun another successful year - thank you for your continued support!  Through our generous donors, the Foundation supplies over $100,000 annually in student scholarships.  In 2015, we provided an additional $129,000 in equipment to our academic programs.

The Foundation's charge is to s upport the educational programs, services, and facilities of Terra State Community College; solicit, receive, and hold funds; enhance facilities; run programs to support the college and its people; and to engage in special activities to support the College and its people.   In short, the Foundation is here to help.  As a not-for-profit
501(c)(3) organization, contributions are tax deductible to the extent of the law.

We are grateful for the support of our donors - all of us are making a difference in the lives of Terra's students.
Most sincerely,
Cory

Terra State Honors Rutherford B. Hayes
As part of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums' centennial celebration, Terra State Community College will rename a building in honor of the former president -  the Rutherford B. Hayes Skilled Trades Center.  The ceremony will occur on Terra State's campus at Noon on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.

The building houses the HVAC-R, automotive and welding programs, as well as computer labs and classrooms.  "The naming of a building was suggested, and the trustees, along with (executive director) Christie Weininger from the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums, were very excited to do this," Terra State president Dr. Jerome Webster said.

Upon further investigation, the Skilled Trades Center became the clear choice. Hayes wrote in his diary, dated March 11, 1892, that he believed, "To make the boy equal to his fellows, let him be taught to make a living with the skilled labor of his hands." Hayes devoted his post-presidential years to educational issues, Webster said.

The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums  - the first presidential museum in the United States - will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with a variety of events throughout the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Did You Know? - A Message About Charitable Giving
Charitable giving can play an important role in many estate plans. Philanthropy cannot only give you great personal satisfaction, it can also give you a current income tax deduction, let you avoid capital gains tax and reduce the amount of taxes your estate may owe when you die.

There are many ways to give to charity. You can make gifts during your lifetime or at your death. You can make gifts outright or use a trust. You can name a charity as a beneficiary in your will, or designate a charity as a beneficiary of your retirement plan or life insurance policy.
The Terra College Foundation staff can assist you in exploring the various ways your gift can benefit not only you but also the mission of the foundation by enhancing continuous learning experiences, create facilities, and expand opportunities at Terra State Community College.

For more information on charitable giving opportunities at Terra State, contact Cory Stine, Ph.D. at 419-559-2355 or email   Dr. Cory Stine.
