Dear (Contact First Name),
This Memorial Day I'm remembering those who've lost their lives in service. I'm also thinking about the two-track way we treat people who give service.

On national holidays like these, we hail a handful of heroes. With the return of the work week, we turn from back-slapping to bad mouthing -- those other givers of service -- the low-paid workers who raise our kids, care for our sick and keep our communities safe.

Chicago public School Teacher Jennifer Johnson had this to say about that:  Chicago Teachers Turn Up the Heat.

Author Terry Tempest Williams says there's nothing more important right now than listen, to our true selves and to each other. You can listen to that conversation -- and read the transcript -- at GRITtv.org.

Coming up, Peter Edelman on So Rich So Poor, and Amalgamated Transit Union president, Larry Henley on the rise of violence against transit workers.

Viewer support is making these conversations possible. Give, or better yet, subscribe, at GRITtv.org
