Partners in College and Career Readiness Present at SXSWedu in Austin, Texas 

Among the hundreds of workshops held at SXSWedu, panels discussing vertical alignment and college and career readiness were significantly represented, as leaders in the field shared the vast work Texas has done over the past few years. 

 

"What excites me is that Texas is leading the nation in this work in a lot of ways," said Charis McGaughty, Director of Research Projects at Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC). "To hear these three strong partnerships, these three examples from the panelists, really solidified that thinking for me." 

 

 

Texas Celebrates Early College High School

Week with Educate Texas and Jobs for the Future

 

Early College High School Week (ECHSW), nationally coordinated by Jobs for the Future, headlined March 24 - 28, 2014 and celebrated the early college high schools around the nation.
 
"We're focusing on the entire K-16 pipeline," said Alma Garcia, Program Officer for Educate Texas. "Some school districts as early as the elementary years are really making a difference by working with the community and the parents to understand what it takes for their child to go to college."

 

 

San Antonio Pathways Releases Unit Geared Lessons, Endorsed by the David Conley Research Center

 

The San Antonio Pathways has released unit geared lessons for all four content areas to further college and career readiness among Texas students.

 

"The whole idea was to create a model for lesson design that incorporates the college and career readiness standards," said Tripp Presley, San Antonio Pathways Coordinator and Director of P-16 Initiatives at Alamo Colleges.

   

 

AVATAR: Aligning Algebra II and College Mathematics

For two years, Academic Vertical Alignment Training and Renewal (AVATAR) partners in Education Service Center (ESC) Regions 2, 9, 10, 16, and 20 have been working to ensure more students move from high school to college successfully and without remediation in mathematics. 

One gap instructors found was that different vocabulary was being used by students and instructors to describe the same operations. 

   


 

The University of Houston Hosts 2014 CSSP Workshop

The 2014 Technical Assistance Workshops, sponsored by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, were hosted at the University of Houston  March 5 - 6, 2014. 

 

Workshop material and resources are now available.
