Sorry its been so long!
1. Saying Goodbye to Crossed Sabers Stable and Hello to the NEW Second Wind. As most of your know we sold the 109 acres of wooded land and paid off the farm which was great but from the last two years we have realized there is no way we can run a big rescue stable so we're selling the horse facilities on a land contract. There is no reason for a 31 stall facility to sit empty and just fall apart. We will close in probably a week or two... but we're shooting for the end of this month. Its sad to let go of such a wonderful farm especially when we are still getting so many calls about horses in need. It would have been nice for a rescue/adoption program to keep that place. We had a handful of people giving until it hurts but we needed a lot more support to keep going. I know we will be sadly missed in that way. I personally want to thank the many people that helped us over the years, with 2677 animals in homes we can never be sad about what we've been able to do. We could not have done it without you,..... our donors, adopters and foster moms, interns, riders, volunteers, employees have been it all possible. There are a couple thousand animals out there that owe you their life. Without you they would be dead or neglected, dying in some field or tied to some dog house. Its a great thing you have done.
COME AND CELEBRATE 17 YEARS OF ANIMAL RESCUE! (OUR 17TH ANNIVERSARY WAS THE 16TH OF JUNE). COME SATURDAY JUNE 29TH AT 2PM, WE'LL SAY GOODBYE TO THE BARN, HAVE SOME FOOD AND DRINKS AND TELL STORIES OF THE MEMORIES AND ALL THE GREAT ANIMALS. WE ALSO HAVE SO MANY THINGS FOR SALE, IT WILL BE A GOOD TIME TO PICK UP YOUR PURCHASES. YOU MAY EVEN GET TO MEET THE NEW BUYERS OF THE HORSE FACILITY.
2. Second Wind is not closing and will continue to follow our horses in their homes and do a select few horses for our favorite donors and those who can pay board of $250. to the new owner here and when we can find a foster mom to take a horse on... knowing it may take a year or two to find that perfect committed home for each horse. We will continue to do dog rescue and horse rescue as we have the money for it. Obviously without a farm, it will be very limited. The program will have the office, the kennels and 8 acres of land.
3. What we need presently:
Help with our feed bill by calling 304-269-1333 and give Charlie your credit card donation so we can stay up with our feed requirements.
In about 3 months we will need fosters for horses, people that have the time, money and experience to really help a horse along.
Also, if you want to turn into a rescuer, pull a dog from a shelter or bring a horse home and we'll help you place it. If we can't do it we can certainly help others place horses with our system.
4. Right now we have 14 dog rescues here and we have 3 of our horses needing homes. We've been having trouble with the website and will get it up dated soon. Since January we've put 3 horses into great homes and just over 40 dogs and cats. We've probably turned away 50 horses in need... who knows what happened to those horses, with many I'm sure we were the horses last chance. Terribly sad we can't help them. A very special thank you
