Thank you so much for your generous donations kickstarting our
year end fundraising efforts on #GivingTuesday! We appreciate your generosity and look forward to sharing more of our work with you
to show you how it is put to good use.
The President of our Board of Directors is currently at Standing Rock.
Dr. Pouné Saberi arrived as a temporary part of the medic team just after the U.S Army Corps of Engineers announced that they would not grant an easement under Lake Oahe, which halts the construction of the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). The proposed pipeline route would have connected oil from North Dakota's Bakken oil fields across more than 1100 miles to an Illinois storage and transfer facility.
Lake Oahe, a dammed section of the Missouri River is the main source of drinking water for the Standing Rock Souix Reservation. The victory for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and their vast global support network arrived after the Water Protectors held camp for months during temperatures well-below freezing.
We will let you hear more about the experience of working as a medic during such freezing but triumphant times after Dr. Saberi returns.
