Thanks for your loyal support! CESP is powered by the work of individual advocates and the contributions of individuals who support our mission to create a necklace of parks from Oakland to the Carquinez Strait.

By educating the public at various outreach venues and encouraging East Bay residents to voice their views to elected officials, CESP is able to act as a strong united voice to express why we all need parks and open space on our east shore.

Thanks to you, this year CESP achieved several goals for McLaughlin Eastshore State Park (MESP) and other shoreline areas outside MESP.

I hope you will consider making a gift at this time.

Albany

Great success: Albany's waterfront is a safe and healthy place for the public to enjoy!

Since May this year the Albany Bulb has been completely clear of campers and camper debris!

The California Coastal Conservancy awarded the City of Albany a $168,000 transition planning grant to clean up the Bulb and transfer management to MESP.

Thank you for sending letters and emails and attending City of Albany meetings.

CESP applauds the City's efforts to assure that shelter and social services were offered to all campers.

North Richmond Parcels
The Breuner Marsh Restoration and Public Access Project broke ground on Earth Day 2014. This is a huge milestone for the north Richmond shoreline, which is home to some of the last pockets of pristine tidal land in the East Bay

CESP continues to advocate for expanding parkland on the North Richmond Shoreline on properties south of Pt. Pinole Regional Park.

South Richmond
CESP is actively monitoring two developments on Richmond's south shoreline adjacent to the north end of MESP and Hoffman Marsh -- the South Shoreline Specific Plan led by the City of Richmond and the Berkeley Global Campus at Richmond Bay led by the University.

CESP has been working for the preservation and protection of the sensitive coastal prairie, as well as advocating for stringent clean-up of hazardous waste and contaminated soil on some parcels.

Oakland
The proposed Gateway Park project at the foot of the Bay Bridge east span is adjacent to the south end of MESP. CESP continues to make suggestions for this new park in Oakland and encourage linkages to the SF Bay Trail.

Berkeley Brickyard and Dwight Steele Visitor Center
CESP is working with East Bay Regional Park District on the Berkeley Brickyard design and restoration at this ideal gateway to the Park. CESP envisions the Dwight Steele visitor center at this location to honor Sylvia's partner in creating McLaughlin Eastshore State Park.

BeyondMESP

Advocacy beyond McLaughlin Eastshore State Park

Last year CESP gathered shoreline and waterway advocates from all over San Francisco and San Pablo bays for a successful Shoreline Advocacy event.  This year we organized two more events at Shorebird Park Nature Center in Berkeley, and we will continue to strengthen relationships with local shoreline advocates as we look forward to another gathering in February 2015.

By building a collaborative such as this one, we hope to not only raise consciousness about climate change but to put forward an East Bay Agenda for action by shoreline cities.

Grassroots power makes a difference!

Remarkably effective for a small grassroots organization operating on a very small budget, CESP remains the leader in protecting our East Bay shoreline. By engaging and holding elected officials accountable, educating the public about impending issues, and empowering community members to defend their public lands, CESP has been able to make great progress in 2014 toward ensuring that the East Bay shoreline remains a jewel to be enjoyed by all.

Please help CESP continue our work on these important issues. Give as generously as you can:
