BECOME A SUPPORTER.   PTO NEEDS YOU!

Without your membership none of the above could have happened.    As of today, only 426 out of 1189 families have joined PTO for
this school year.

Our programs CANNOT happen without your support.  Your contribution/membership of $35 will continue to help fund all the educational, stimulating programming that PTO has planned for the remainder of the school year.

In addition to all the programs you help make happen, you get access to our membership directory that lists all the students in the district.  The directory is great community asset that keeps us all connected!  To join visit the PTO store.

We realize how busy everyone is - you are not required to volunteer when you join PTO.

PUTTING THE 'TEACHER'
IN PTO - Daniel Wright Library gets a makeover!

From the Desks of Mrs. Otto, Teacher/Library Specialist and Michelle Blackley, DW Principal:

The Daniel Wright JHS Library was awarded a $30,000 grant from the D103 PTO.  District 103 enhanced those monies to allow the DW Learning Center to be renovated with new shelving, furniture, and customizable learning spaces for students!

The furniture and new shelving arrangements have  breathed new life into the DW library.  The space feels fresh and welcoming.  The students report that it feels, "cool, comfy and cozy" and they say "We  have more space to work and collaborate on projects".

We are feeling proud of our new space as it provides an updated area for the students, the staff and the community to gather.  The flexibility of the learning  environment provides varied seating options, an array of collaboration arrangements, standing work stations and comfortable seating. It has also positively impacted accessibility of the library resources for all students at DW.
This directly impacts teaching and learning for all students as it provides a space that promotes thinking, creativity, and collaboration across the curriculum.
We are looking forward to the library becoming the hub of our school.

Thank you to the PTO and the D103 community for their continued support of one of our most valued resources.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Meet Sandy Switzer.  Sandy and her family moved to Lincolnshire March 2016 from Highland Park and started in D103 that Fall.   She has three children - Christopher (10th grade), Alexander (8th grade) and Alaina (5th grade).  Once settled in Lincolnshire, Sandy wasted no time in joining the PTO and has been adding great value ever since.  Her biggest contribution has been helping transition the PTO book fair into the success that it is today by using Scholastic as the vendor of choice.  In addition, you can find her helping out with Indoor Recess at Half Day School and assisting in the Daniel Wright Library.  Last year she helped organize the fourth grade State Fair and is currently busy making sure the fifth grade Colonial Fair is a resounding success.  We love it when our new parents dive right in and start getting involved - thank you Sandy!  And why she does it:  "I volunteer because it is the best way to get to know the schools in the district, the teachers, and the student bodies. Also, I wanted to be aware of what goes on in the schools academically and socially and the best way to do that is to be in the schools by volunteering. Lastly, I just simply like being helpful and useful. Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose and accomplishment unlike housework, which seems never ending!"
