This morning marked Building One Community’s 5th and most successful Annual Spring Benefit Breakfast! Our mission of bringing passionate people together to help immigrants and their families succeed was reflected in the enthusiasm of the 450 attendees who joined us for an emotional and educational event.
Carlos Rivera, whose family has come to our center since we opened in 2011, shared with us his own immigrant journey from Honduras to Stamford. For close to 8 years, he worked during the day and studied for his GED at night, leaving home at 6am and returning at 10pm. All of his efforts are so that he can support his children, and so that they can have access to the opportunities that he did not have himself as a child.
It was our privilege to honor Yelena Klompus with the 4th “Land of Opportunity” Award in recognition of her tireless work and advocacy at the Ferguson Library on behalf of local immigrants. We are fortunate to have talented and committed individuals like Yelena strengthening the fabric of our community.
