We returned from our short trip to Cuba on Friday morning and of course, Friday evening was Styr at its finest. Many of our regulars were there, plus quite a few members that returned earlier than expected from North & South Carolina due to Hurricane Florence. Our Friday nights at Styr are a mainstay of our community where everyone seems to gather to discuss previous days or upcoming events. Our social life is very active in our community and Styr, is our central point. Of course, while we were there, we enjoyed the music, the dancing, food, as well the drinks. Always an enjoyable evening with friends.

Sunday was again Football at Styr. A small but very vocal number of members and friends watched the Green Bay Packers play the Minnesota Vikings on our big screen. It was quite a game and it ended with an overtime tie, 29-29. Those fans left exhausted. On the small screens in Styr, quite a few fans watched the New Jersey Jets lose to The Miami Dolphins and our Pittsburg Steeler fans left disgusted after their loss to The Chiefs. The late afternoon game drew our fanatics from Boston onto the big screen to watch Tom Brady lose to the Jaguars 31-20. A tough day for a lot of Addison members and their favorite teams. Next week is a new week, as always, for our New York fans. Come to Styr and enjoy the game of your choice. There are 11 TV's placed all around Styr. One of them will have your favorite team playing.

Sunday night was our San Geronimo Buffet Festival. Over 150 members and guests enjoyed an elaborate buffet dinner of assorted soups, carving stations, assorted pizzas & pastas, finalized with dessert choices of zeppoles, cannoli's, tiramisu & more. Many of the men ate while also running back & forth to Styr to see how their favorite football teams were doing. It was a wonderful night of eating as well as enjoying family and friends. What more can a member want?

Jewish tradition teaches that on Rosh Hashanah the book of life is written and on Yom Kippur our decree for New Year is sealed. We are taught that by doing repentance and charity, we can have a positive effect on the outcome of the decree. As a result, much of Yom Kippur and the prescribed acts are aimed at achieving this goal. We refrain from working and those that are permitted, fast for the 24 hour period, to practice self-denial, starting Tuesday evening at sun down until Wednesday evening at sun down. Addison Reserve continues the Jewish Tradition with a traditional break-fast dinner enjoyed by over 225 members and their families and guests. What a glorious evening feast we all enjoyed. We walked in hungry but we left stuffed. Thank you Addison for always caring and making our club our home.

Danny & Harriet Mironov and long time friends and past residents of Addison Reserve, The Gelfands, are now visiting Ibiza, Spain. Harriet happens to be a great travel agent, maybe that explains why she is always someplace exciting and new. What a wonderful life!

We just returned from a 4 day cruise to Cuba. Our ship, The Norwegian Sky, was absolutely delightful and unfortunately, the food was delicious, hence we ate too much. The service and the shows were wonderful as well. Cuba, however, sent us back to the 1950s and 60s. The country is extremely poor by our standards, without common luxuries such as air conditioning, toilet paper, and good housing. There were dilapidated and abandon buildings everywhere and work is hard to find and when you do, it pays poorly. You can see traces of Cuba from before Castro, but when you looked more carefully, you noticed the better buildings were government controlled and the homes where the people lived were run down and in ill repair. The cars that they so cherish, were left by the Americans who fled with nothing but the clothing on their backs. Many of the now government buildings were also, at one time, owned by wealthy Americans. We are so blessed to be living in our great country. One doesn't have to go too far to appreciate our country as well as our beautiful country club. On the bright side, we spent a magical night at the Tropicana Night Club in Havana. We looked for Ricky Ricardo and Lucille Ball, but they weren't there. We time traveled back to the 60's for one night of glorious entertainment. The dancing, costumes with head dresses, were amazing, not to mention the beautiful bodies on the female dancers. It was a night to remember!
