This year marks the 30th year of HP Arts, furthering its mission of "enriching the educational experience of all HPISD children through arts programming".
Through the generous support of parents, community members and a grant from La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas, HP Arts funded more than $95,000 last year to support the arts on all of our school campuses.
We thank you, our patrons and La Fiesta de las Seis Banderas, for your generous support.

Funding and Projects by school -
Armstrong, Bradfield, Hyer and University Park Elementaries: Cara Mia Theatre Company, Shakespeare Dallas, Dallas Opera, Ft Worth Children's Opera, Strike Scrape & Shake with Mark Shelton, Tuneful Tales, Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folkloric, piano accompanist, Honor Choir sheet music, Digital stylus pen for iPad, Brilliant Art Ladies Chinese resist painting on silk and painting with wool, Fused Glass Art, 35 art smocks & art mirrors for self portraits, and a Paragon Touch N Fire kiln.
McCullough Intermediate School and Highland Park Middle School: Romeo music s
ystem, six Strobel violins and two cellos, two Fox Model 41 bassoons, Zumba cultural dance, Poetry workshops & slam with Joaquin Zihuatanejo, Q&A with Doug Wright, and Honor Choir sheet music.
Highland Park High School: Marching band instruments, Troubadour harp, Glowforge 3D laser printer, two Speedball printing presses and tools, LitFest workshops, Q&A with Doug Wright, Internment camp speaker, Academic Decathlon printing for fine arts sections, two debate consultants, sectional coaching for orchestra sections, Museum Forum for teachers, Nepalis site licenses for French and Spanish, traveling portfolio cases w/attachable wheels, Spring Concert band, and workshops/guest artists for Movement, Auditioning, KidProv, Cultural/Folk Dance, Advanced Dance, Choreography, Kabuki Theater, Using Accents, and Acting for the Camera.
Research shows that student's exposure to the arts - music, theater, graphic arts - is associated with childhood cognitive development, academic engagement and achievement. It also builds other skills and abilities such as personal identity, positive self-esteem, life satisfaction and giving kids a sense of meaning and purpose.
These experiences help to enrich the education of our students not only for today, but also for tomorrow.

Ceramics are a big part of the elementary art program at
Hyer
. Students at every grade level incorporate this medium into their art studies. So this past spring HP Arts partnered in the purchase of a new kiln for the art studio. It's great to be able to gift something to the schools that is lasting and will have an impact on each student within the school.

New Bassoons for MIS/HPMS Band
|
|
HP Arts was pleased to purchase two new Fox Model 41 Bassoons this past spring for MIS/HPMS Band. Each bassoon funded will be "checked out" to a sixth grade band student, and he or she will use it through their eighth grade year. The bassoon is an expensive instrument that adds greatly to the overall sound of the band. HP Arts is proud to support the music program within our schools, which encourage students to become lifelong performers and patrons of music.

HPISD - Highlander Festival:
The Highland Festival began on March 20 with a one-act play performance of The Women of Lockerbie in the HPHS Palmer Auditorium. The following day, a choral concert was performed by students from across the district, including the 4th and 5th Grade Honors Choir, the 6th Grade Choir. The concert's finale was a collaboration among the Highland Park Middle School choir, Lads & Lassies and Park Version.
The visual art show opened March 22 in the Palmer Auditorium with a gallery of artwork from talented students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade. Officials from the HPISD Administration Building, the City of University Park Town Hall and Public Library, and the City of Highland Park Public Library were on hand to choose artwork to hang in the HPISD Administration building for the next year.
On March 23, community members enjoyed an instrumental concert in the Highlander Field House at HPHS. The concert featured band and orchestra students from MIS, HPMS and HPHS, and the students combined their talents for a stirring finale.
All performances were free and open to the public and gratefully dedicated to the community!

HP Arts Honors Spring Award Recipients
|
Each Spring HP Arts is pleased to honor outstanding members of our teaching and HPISD extended community for their contribution to the Arts through teaching and service. The "Arts in Education" Award honors an HPISD non-fine arts faculty member who has meaningfully incorporated the arts into their curriculum. The "Arts Advocate" award recognizes a community member's efforts to promote the arts and art education along with their active participation in the arts. Honorees are nominated by the HP Arts Board and presented with a gift and certificate at the May Board meeting.

Put a smile on the face of someone you love!
Support the arts by
purchasing a commemorative brass plaque
for an auditorium seat in the HPHS Palmer Auditorium.
Your donation accomplishes two goals: it supports the arts
and it celebrates the family, teacher, graduating senior,
or other person you choose to honor
by placing their name on the engraved plaque.
Each commemorative plaque is $500 and can be purchased by going to the

Play It Again, Sam!
The HP Arts program, Play It Again, Sam! is designed to recycle instruments
from the community back into the school music programs.
The instruments are considered a donation to HP Arts
and are eligible for a tax-deductible contribution.
