2016 REACH Scholarship Signing Day
REACH Scholars from left to right: Briasha Paschal,  Kallista Sloan, Christa Hannah, Carlisia Bradner and Kyle Spivey

"It's most exciting to consider the incredible potential that each of you brings not only to our school system but to our state and our nation. You have a bright future and we look forward to all of your achievements."

Those were the words Superintendent Dr. Noris Price shared with the newest cohort of scholars at the REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) Scholarship Signing Day Ceremony that took place at Oak Hill Middle School. Our newest scholars, Briasha Paschal, Kallista Sloan, Christa Hannah, Carlisia Bradner and Kyle Spivey along with their families, signed contracts agreeing to meet the academic and behavioral criteria laid out by the REACH Scholarship Program and upon completion of high school they each will receive $10,000 to help pay for college. The 2016-2017 REACH Scholars were nominated by their teachers and underwent a rigorous application and interview process to be selected as one of the five.

Many of Baldwin County's elected and community leaders were in attendance and participated in the annual ceremony recognizing our REACH scholars. This is the second year in which the Baldwin County School District has taken part in the REACH Scholarship Program.

McKeever Receives Georgia Power Grant

Congratulations to Clifton McKeever, a teacher at Blandy Hills Elementary, for having been selected to receive a $1,000 New Teacher Assistance grant from the Georgia Power Foundation! In this program offered by Georgia Power, one of our district's Partners In Education, nominations are received from each of the public colleges in Georgia that have education programs. Candidates must be in the top 25 percent of their graduating class academically and must have shown high aptitude for teaching while in college.

The purpose of the grant is to encourage some of Georgia’s best and brightest new teachers by helping them purchase materials and supplies for their classroom.

The Early Learning Center Celebrated
Georgia Pre-K Week
The BCSD Early Learning Center hosted guests and VIP's from all across Baldwin County to celebrate the Georgia Pre-K Week. These guests showed their support of early childhood education by visiting our Pre-K classrooms to read to children and to promote the importance of early learning. Seen above, Superintendent Dr. Noris Price and school board members Lyn Chandler, Dr. Gloria Wicker and Wes Cummings took time out of their busy schedules to read to our Pre-K students.
Math Madness Family Night

If you missed our "Math Madness Family Night", you missed out on a lot of fun! Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd students and parents from across the district met at Oak Hill Middle School to discover some new and exciting ways to approach what is often times a difficult subject.

The event was made possible by a grant known as K-2 Mathematicians and Writers from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement. It's also a small portion of the now over $4 million in grants that we've been able to acquire for our district over the past two years.
BCSD Parent University

Parent University was held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, at Oak Hill Middle School. Parent University is designed to provide parent workshops focused on supporting students' academic, social and emotional needs.

Workshop topics included the best means of communicating with your child's teacher, how to use Power School to check in on your child's academic progress, and resources and strategies parents can use to support their child's education both in the classroom and at home.

USDA & GA School Lunch Programs Recognize BCSD School Nutrition for Best Practices
The BCSD School Nutrition department was recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture for it's best practices in driving up participation in our summer meals program. While it may be common knowledge that our nutritional staff do an excellent job of providing meals for thousands of students every day, it may not be as known that they also produce almost 50,000 meals during the summer months for children under 18, as well.

The Georgia School Lunch Program also took note of the substantial increase in participation of our school lunches and recognized our School Nutrition Department earlier this year.
Midway Mustangs Present Landforms Project

Mrs. Hall-Jones' 3rd grade class at Midway Elementary presented their Landforms Projects this week

You could say the feeling in the air was explosive, especially when they set out to make their homemade volcanoes erupt right in the classroom!
