P.S.Dear Friend of Lake Claremont
Press:
As the economy and bookselling world
continue undergoing tremendous changes, Lake Claremont
Press continues to find new, creative, and sustainable ways to
release books that Chicagoans want to read and that support some of
our reasons for being:
- Helping readers better navigate and
enjoy the city around them.
- Nudging readers towards undiscovered
treasures and unfamiliar areas of the city.
- Encouraging a sense of place.
- Promoting the local economy and local
businesses.
- Cultivating a civic identity and sense
of history.
We devote our current newsletter to one new
way of doing business and we hope you'll consider supporting this
new effort. Kickstarter.com is a social media, crowdfunding site
that allows people to group together and support creative endeavors
they like. In our case, Kickstarter allows you to pre-purchase
copies of The Beat Cop's Guide to Chicago Eats at special
prices and receive extra "rewards" for doing so, while helping us
meet our goal of raising $5,000 towards the book's first
printing.
There is no risk in
participating, but we have only 28 days, until December 5 at 1:39
p.m., to reach our goal. Check it out
today!
Thank you.

In 2004 Dennis Foley brought you
tongue-in-cheek, food-in-mouth expertise with his humorous,
award-winning hit, The Streets & San Man's Guide to Chicago
Eats. As a member of the City of Chicago's Department of
Lunch, the Streets & San Man showed readers where he and his
colleagues got large, tasty meals in neighborhoods all over the
city for $5-$10.
But it's time for the Streets & San Man
to move over, because Sgt. David J. Haynes of the Chicago Police
Department is now the unofficial mayor of the Department of
Lunch...and Dinner...and Donuts.
The Beat Cop's
Guide to Chicago Eats
- Could you use your very own police
discount?
- Do you have only half an hour to eat,
but want something heartier
and more satsifying than fast food?
- Is a meal for 10 bucks or less priced
just right for you?
- Would you love to venture into
unfamiliar neighborhoods as a food tourist, but don't know where to
start?
- Do you want honest-to-goodness food
from locally-owned businesses?
Well then, Ask a Cop!
When Sgt.
David Haynes pauses from taking a bite out of crime, he takes a
bite out of chicken, ribs, tacos, and occasionally even a
salad.
And while
you might want to stop a cop on the street from time to time to ask
for a restaurant recommendation, that's not exactly why the 11,000
men and women of the CPD are out on the streets of
Chicago.
Sgt.
Haynes was kind enough to compile this collection of his
colleagues' favorite eateries in police districts across the city,
but he is no Officer Friendly. A former marine, Haynes has chased
down gang bangers in the toughest West Side neighborhoods, ran
Chicago's first-ever Homeland Security Task Force, and supervised
squads in the 19th District at Belmont and Western.
Haynes
and co-author, Death by Children bloggist and humorist
Christopher Garlington, spice up their food advice with outrageous
stories from working cops, Chicago cop lore & lingo, a few
grisly detours, and even some personal recipes.
They've
even secured you your very own police discount in the form of $34
in coupons.
For
a book that's $15.95, how's that for clout?
