Living Generously
Last Sunday, we begin our 2017 Annual Giving Campaign: Living Generously. This past week, you received a packet in the mail which will include a Narrative Budget and a 2017 Pledge Commitment Card. (If you did not receive this packet, please contact the church office - 969-4771,) Please read the Narrative Budget to discover more about All Saints-by-the-Sea's life-sustaining ministries. Over the four weeks, we invite you to consider how you might participate in giving generously to support All Saints' ministries. Please bring your Pledge Commitment Card with you to church on Sunday, November 6, when completed pledge cards will be offered as an act of worship in grateful response to all that God has provided.

Creating Our Giving Basket
As part of our Annual Giving Campaign, we are building a Giving Basket as a meditation on how All Saints' ministries inspire us to live generously. During Coffee Hour, you are encouraged to festoon our Giving Basket with ribbons, while contemplating how All Saints' Sanctuary Preservation & Readiness Project inspire you to live more generously. The All Saints' Giving Basket will be used in worship on November 6.
It's Almost November...
Turkeys & M-4 Ecumenical Service
Each year, during the week before Thanksgiving, the congregations of the four churches of Montecito - the M4 Churches - gather in a service of Thanksgiving worship. This year El Montecito Presbyterian Church will be hosting. The service will be on Sunday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m. and will last approximately an hour. All are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.

All Saints is also participating in the M4 Turkey Drive challenge. Our goal is to donate 500 Turkeys & Chickens (remember that many people's home refrigerators and ovens cannot accommodate a large turkey), and we'll need everyone's help. Please plan to participate. Click here for details.
Book Group News
All Saints Book Group will meet next on Monday, November 14th at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish House for discussion and potluck. We will be discussing the New York Times bestseller A Man Called Ove: A Novel by Fredrik Backman. Click here to continue reading. All are welcome! Please contact Rev. Vicki at the church with questions,
Parish Social Set for Friday, Nov. 4th
The Vestry is once again sponsoring a Parish Social - the entire congregation is invited! These have been well attended and regularly attract more than 100 parishioners and friends. The Parish Socials are an opportunity to get to know fellow parishioners who attend other services and a chance to invite friends who might have an interest in the Episcopal Church and All Saints.

Our next Friday Night Parish Social is set for Friday, Nov. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Dick Thielscher (550 Picacho Lane, Montecito). Past socials have shown us amazing hospitality at a variety of homes where we experienced firsthand God's blessings.
Valet parking will be provided, along with heavy appetizers and an array of beverages.

Note we'll be outside so bring a jacket. Please be sure to sign up by calling the Church Office at 969-4771 or email

If you'd like to assist, please contact Charlotte (Chuck) DiTirro, All Saints' coordinating Vestry member, at 248-842-835 or email her at
All Saints Photo Directories Are Here!
The 2016-2017 All Saints photo directories have arrived fresh off the presses! Pick up your copy at the Information Table this Sunday after the service. (Suggested donation of $10.)
Sacred America Sacred World
Thursday Evening Adult Formation Classes
Everyone is invited to another Read-along and Dialogue that continues our good work with  Healing The Heart of Democracy .    In an amazing bit of synchronicity this summer, a book was published that seems designed to continue our engagement with politics as a sacred path.

Join us as we explore  Sacred America - Sacred World: Fulfilling Our Mission in Service to All  by Stephen Dinan. Class will meet Thursday evening, November 3rd in the Parish House as 7pm. Click here for full details.

Vestry Nominations Still Accepted
The nominating committee invites you to make recommendations of people to serve on the vestry. The vestry is a body of non-ordained people in the Episcopal Church, duly elected by the members of the church to provide oversight with the rector of the spiritual and material concerns of the parish. Vestry members should have been active in the life and ministry of All Saints-by-the-Sea for one year. The nominating committee will enter into a period of discernment once names  are received. Please submit names for vestry recommendations to David Telleen-Lawton at

The food will be donated to Cafe Picasso Food Pantry at St. Michael's University Church (aka St. Mike's) in Isla Vista to serve UCSB and SBCC students struggling with issues of food insecurity.

Please, no open containers - new, unopened food only.

Belief in God in an Age of Science
Wednesday Evening Adult Formation Classes
Science underlies every aspect of the world around us, and faith is the foundation of our lives. These two very different ways of knowing are both essential, but science and religion have a history of conflict: from Galileo to Dawkins, from creationism to the big bang. Yet many have sought to bridge the gap.  Please join us as parishioner and physicist Michael Swift takes us through "Belief in God in an Age of Science", a six-week class on science and religion. Classes continue October 12.  Click here for full details.
