Whereas a pet tag or collar would need to be replaced regularly, a microchip lasts forever. Additionally, collars and name tags are quick to fall off and get lost, especially when a pet is lost and out in the elements. But a microchip will always be there.

Most shelters implant pets with a chip before leaving to begin their new life. When a lost animal is brought to a clinic or shelter, they are automatically scanned for a most common pet microchip brands. So you can rest assured that if your pet gets loose, that their microchip can get them back to you!
