Coming Home and Sharing Knowledge
Former Students Talk About College Life
|
On Monday, December 19th, Brookville High School hosted 20 plus former students (current college students and recent college graduates), to talk to our current juniors and seniors about what life is like during and after college.
The focus of the conversation centered around time management, internships and getting yourself involved in the various clubs and activities. They also discussed making connections with your professors, and taking advantage of other opportunities such as ROTC or the military to help pay for school. These former students talked about the importance of being financially responsible and working hard to accomplish the goals you set. Both current and former student's feedback was that the panel was beneficial and shed light on the different college and career options available to our students.
This panel discussion is another way BHS is working to ensure all of our students are exposed to higher education opportunities. We continue to provide information in various formats to reach as many as students as possible.

Shooting Hoops for Textbooks |
Sinclair Community College recently hosted a three point shooting contest for representatives from many of the local school districts that have students taking their College Credit Plus courses. College Credit Plus allows high school students to enroll and take course work to attain college credit hours while still in high school. Under this program the local school district pays the cost of the credit hour and for the students textbooks. This three-point shooting contest was a way for Sinclair to provide a small amount of relief for those textbook costs.
For attending the event, each high school was awarded $500 towards their textbook bill for the fall semester. The winning high school would receive $1500 to put towards their textbook bill. Jeff Davidson was recruited to shoot 3 pointers and he, along with his family, his coaches, and several players attended the event. Brookville came in second place but because of the large amount of BHS supporters in the stands, Sinclair awarded Brookville $1500 as well!
Thank you to Coach Davidson and all who attended the shootout. The money you earned will certainly benefit CCP students and our schools!

Most of our student-athletes are still hard at work over this holiday break, honing their skills and keeping up their endurance as we enter the mid-season upon the return to competition in January.
Our men's basketball team is participating in the Holiday Jet Tournament at Franklin Monroe with games on December 29th (JV @ 12 noon and Varsity at 6:00 p.m.) and December 30th (times determined following games on Dec. 29th).
Also, our junior high wrestling team will take to the mat on Wednesday, December 28th at home, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
|
As everyone relaxes and enjoys the holiday break by visiting with family and friends and taking stock in the past year, we thought you might enjoy a little video highlighting some of the events, sights and sounds from December in our district.

BHS Student Council
Looking for a little stress relief from the ensuing semester exams and holiday rush, the high school student council sponsored a "staff versus students" volleyball game.
Relay for life sold the tickets to attend and popcorn. Participants from each grade level had Christmas themed apparel assigned to wear as their uniform. After a lot of fun and a staff championship, the total proceeds of $445 were donated to Relay for Life.

Mrs. Stammen and Helpers
On Tuesday, December 20, high school math teacher Mrs. Ann Stammen was joined by several other staff members to prepare a free pancake breakfast for any student who wanted to come in before taking their exams. Mrs. Stammen and her helpers do this as a way to promote students being ready to do their very best on the test!

Breakfast Workers
Since 1955, Brookville Schools have held an employee/retiree Christmas Breakfast the day before the holiday break. The gathering took place again this year (the 61st breakfast) with between 30-40 retirees joining current staff for this festive fellowship. Kudos to the school nutrition team directed by Mark Porter who prepared breakfast. As tradition has it, the male employees serve the meal after Mr. Lindsey, Mr. Petry and Mr. Lamb prepared the place settings.
