Hello Brown Families,

We are excited to begin the new 2015/2016 school year.  There are many new faces here at Brown Elementary School and we certainly look forward to getting to know all of you.  We have a lot of information in this issue and much of it will come to you as a reminder.  We want to keep you informed of our policies as well as upcoming events that you need to be aware of.  One immediate policy we would like to remind our families of is our car rider procedures.  Please see the underlined link to review our policy.

This month is Food Drive Month for Brown Elementary School.  Please bring in any non-perishable food items to the front office beginning Monday August 10th through Friday September 4th.  We are very excited to come together as a school to support Gleaners Food Bank.  Let's rock it Brown!

We are also kicking off our first Brown on the Town event of the year at Scotty's Brewhouse!  The dates are as follows:

Wednesday August 19th for K-2nd grade

Thursday August 20th for 3rd-5th grade

Times will be from 4-9pm and 10% of all proceeds will be donated to Brown!  This is good for dine-in or carry-out.  Flyers will be distributed and must be taken with you to Scotty's!!

Attention 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls:  Do you like running?  Would you be interested in training for a 5k?  Well you are in luck because we are starting a Running Club this year at Brown!  Our goal will be to run a 5k in the spring.  We will run on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00 right after early dismissal.  There are only 40 spots available (10 per grade level) so interested parties should email Ellen Auten at [email protected] as soon as possible.  She will contact parents/students with more information soon.  Club sponsors are Mrs. Auten and Matt Kriech, a parent of two children at Brown.  In the email, please include your daughter's name and grade level/teacher's name.

Have a great weekend.

Casey

Attendance Information
Regular school attendance is critical to ensure that your child has an opportunity to meet their academic potential. Brownsburg Schools must also strive for a 95% attendance rate required by PL221. For these reasons, no child should exceed 9 absences per school year. Unless we've previously been informed of extenuating circumstances, the school will initiate parental communication whenever a student reaches the midway point of 5 absences.

Please keep the school informed by always calling in (before 10:00am) when your child will be absent from school.  Whenever your child sees the doctor for a scheduled, routine appointment or for an illness, please make sure to request a doctor's note that can be given to the school so that we may record the absence as medically excused.

If you have any questions regarding the school attendance policy, you may contact the school counselor, Kathy Browning, or consult the Elementary School Student Handbook for further information.
Hearing Screening Information
Indiana State law requires students in grades 1, 4, 7, and 10 to have their hearing screened. All kindergarten students and all students new to BCSC will be tested as well. The Brownsburg Speech and Language Pathologists will be conducting hearing screenings at each school.
Students who do not pass their hearing screenings will receive paperwork notifying you of the results. (If your child does not pass their hearing screening, you will be notified of pass/did not pass results when a re-screening is done as well.)
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's hearing.
