Kindergarten and NEW Student Registration for 2016-2017

For NEW students for the 2016-2017 school year - online registration is now open! Current students who will be returning, do not need to register online. This is for incoming Kindergarten and Preschool students and anyone who will be new to Brownsburg Schools in the upcoming school year. CLICK HERE to complete online registration.

Hello Brown Families,
I can't believe the end of the school year is here. It is time for me to give you back your child. We have grown together, loved, laughed, cried and LEARNED!!!! It has been a pleasure and privilege to be a part of their development; I am so incredibly proud of what they have accomplished.
Our Kindergarten class now looks like our August 1st graders. Many of them were leaving their parents for the first time and are now graduating on to the next grade level. Our higher grade levels amazed me with their integrity and perseverance as they pushed through testing and end of year requirements. Many of 5th grade students and I have been together since they were in Kindergarten. I am very sad to see them go, but so excited to see what they accomplish in the year ahead. They are ready for the next step and I am honored to have been a part of their Elementary School journey.
As much as I have loved your children it has been just as rewarding to know all the parents. We have worked together as a team and your children are moving forward because of it. Thank you for all of your support!!!!!
We have three weeks of school left and then we will be saying goodbye and good luck. Have a blessed and safe summer Brown Families!!!!! I will see you all again very soon!!!

Food Drive
"Packing Protein to Fuel Ourselves and Others": Our character trait for May is Citizenship. We would like to give Brown Elementary students an opportunity to show Citizenship by giving back to a community agency that gives so much to people in need, including those at our school. We will be participating in a food drive for Gleaners Food Bank during the week of May 9th. They are in need of items that provide protein, such as cans of tuna, chicken, peanut butter, and canned ready meals such as ravioli. Our motto is "Packing Protein to Fuel Ourselves and Others". When we can do kind things to help others, it helps us to be thoughtful, caring citizens which is fuel for ourselves.
Please send items in with your students or you can also bring items in when you join us for the Related Arts Fair or GrandFriends Breakfast that take place that week. Thank you for helping us to help others.

Retirement Announcement
Jill Hall submitted her letter of retirement over Spring Break effective at the end of the school year. It is hard for me, like I'm sure it is for many of you, to imagine Brown Elementary School without Jill. Jill is a fantastic educator, writing instructor, reading enthusiast, laugh in the staff lounge, heart and advocate for the underprivileged, and thinker outside the box. I cannot wait to see what her next chapter brings because I know it will be amazing! -

Transportation Verification Forms -

Current BCSC families should be receiving a Transportation Verification Form in the mail this weekend or early next week. Whether you are returning to Brownsburg Schools or not, it's very important that these bright yellow forms are returned to school by
May 16th so we have accurate information to start making transportation plans for the next school year. If you do not receive a letter or if you've recently moved, please call the school office to verify your mailing address.

Counselor's Character Corner
The character trait for the month of May is Citizenship. Citizenship means choosing to act in ways that benefit everyone. The students have been participating in lessons to learn about citizenship and we have had discussions about how all of the traits that we have focused on this year are a part of being a good citizen. When we are being responsible, respectful, showing compassion, integrity, perseverance, and acceptance then we are benefiting others. It can be as simple as holding a door open for someone or as big as organizing a day to clean up the local park. Talk with your children about ways to be a good citizen and how their actions can benefit others.
Summertime would be a great time to practice by volunteering in the community, helping a neighbor, taking the dog for a walk or doing chores around the house. Have a relaxing, fun and safe summer! School will be starting back on Thursday, July 28th.

Clinic Request

Hello Parents,
If your child has any prescription medications (controlled substances) in the clinic, please pick up these medications by the end of the day on
May 26, 2016. Any medication not picked up will be discarded. If your child has any emergency medications, such as an inhaler, EpiPen, or seizure medication, those medications will be sent home with your student on the last day of school in a sealed envelope.
If you have any questions, please contact the clinic.

Thank YOU for another fantastic year at Brown!
PSG would like to thank each and everyone one of you that have supported Brown throughout this school year! We have had an amazing year with not only the amount of money raised for the school and staff, but once again awesome numbers of volunteers! We are so thankful to have such a fantastic group of parents that support the students and staff at Brown! It truly shows that we are Brown Proud!
This is also a bittersweet time as our current board members are either moving on to the middle school or are stepping down after several years of service. If you would like to contact any of the new board members, please see their information below. Thank you again and have a wonderful summer break!
Monthly Volunteer Drawing
Two winners were chosen for our last volunteer drawing of the school year and both received $10 gift cards to McDonald's! The winners were Jamie Clark and Tandy Moffitt, thank you both for your continued help at Brown!

Box Tops Spring Fling Clean out!
Please submit any box tops and bonus certificates by next Friday (5/13) to help us meet our collection goal for the year!
Submit any quantity small or large!
If you have multiple children be sure to include all names - students and teachers on your submissions. All forms of submissions are accepted: collection sheets, plastic bags, envelopes, plain pieces of paper, etc.
If we meet our goal Mrs. Smitherman has graciously agreed to participate in a daring and fun activity with the students!
