Counselor's Corner
Counselor's Character Corner

Compassion is the character trait we are focusing on for the months of November and December.  Students are learning that compassion means being caring and understanding of how others feel.  It is important to use kind words toward others such as "please", "thank you", "great job", "you look nice today" or a simple smile and "hello" to someone.  Encourage your children to practice smiling and saying nice things to others and see how many smiles they get in return!  Kindness can be contagious and it is certainly worth catching!

Clinic Request
Now that winter is approaching and bringing cooler weather, I want to remind parents to please dress their child appropriately for the cold temperatures. Recess is outdoor unless for extreme cold or precipitation. Please make sure your child has a warm coat, gloves and hat to wear. Also, socks and appropriate shoes are important for outside recess. Now is also a good time to remind them to also not share hats to help prevent in the spread of lice.

With winter comes flu season time. To clarify, this is the respiratory flu that is spread by coughing, sneezing, or nasal secretions. You have probably seen flu shot tables at Wal-Mart, CVS etc. It is important to vaccinate your child for prevention of illness. While anyone can get influenza, the rates of infection are highest in children. This is NOT a mandatory school vaccine but is recommended by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) for children older than 6 months. For younger children, it may be given in 2 doses for immunity. If you have any questions, please contact your pediatrician or family doctor.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions regarding your child's health and wellness.

Thank You,
Brown Elementary School Nurses

Our meeting will be sponsored by Jaime Welsh and she will be donating products from her natural skin care line to be raffled off that night! Find her on Facebook under HappyHealthyCrunchy to check out all of the wonderful products she creates!

There will not be a PSG meeting or Brown On The Town event in December, we know that it's a crazy month for everyone and time is precious!

Monthly Volunteer Drawing

Erin Sigler was our winner for October!  Congrats Erin!  When volunteering at school, be sure to enter our monthly drawing for the choice of either a $10 gift card or one of our purple volunteer shirts.  Look for the silver box in the front office and enter every time you come in to school to volunteer!

Brown On The Town

November's Brown on the Town will be at Rockstar Pizza!  Kindergarten - 2nd grade will be on Tuesday, 11/17 and 3rd - 5th grade will be Wednesday, 11/18.  They are going to donate 15% of sales back to Brown.   The event will take place all day from open to close so that teachers and staff can order during lunch if they would like to participate!  Hope to see you there!

Students will be bringing home a flyer that must be presented to the cashier for Brown to receive credit.

Family Game Night in November

Family Game Night is just a little over 3 weeks away! This was such a fun evening last year and we are really looking forward to another GREAT event! This event will run from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday, November 13.  You will find fun and games in both the cafeteria and gymnasium!

We will also be having a bake sale where you will find lots of yummy items to munch on that night or to take home! Water will also be available to purchase.  All proceeds from the bake sale will benefit our Relay for Life team at Brown Elementary.

In order for this event to be a success, we need more volunteers! You can choose to help with games in the cafeteria, fun stuff in the gymnasium (including the Bounce House!), or donating items (homemade or store bought!) for the bake sale. If you are interested in helping with games, please sign up through our Sign-Up Genius below OR contact Nikki Ellis at [email protected].  There is really something for everyone!

We do have several items that are being brought in for the bake sale, so if you are able to volunteer your time that evening...we would truly appreciate it!

There is NO CHARGE for families to come out and enjoy game night. We would love to see you there!
