The Trump administration announced a major policy shift that will allow states to impose work requirements in Medicaid.

Since then, 9 additional states have applied to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to enact a work requirement.

The Trump administration's actions have shifted the politics of Medicaid expansion and started new debates about how to manage our largest government health insurance program.
Letter from the Editors

Greetings!

2018 is here! And we at BLG are feeling energized and committed to turning our personal and professional resolutions into a reality. Building upon our 2017 goal to equip you, the provider, with the information and tools you need to optimize your recoveries, our aim in 2018 is to bring you a more customized and streamlined experience – tailored to meet your organizational needs.

As a virtual firm, we operate largely by email and phone, but we know the value of good old-fashioned face-time. Our management team and attorneys travel regularly; if you want some face-time, let us know and we’ll come to you! Our experienced attorneys will sit down with your team to review your receivables, conduct in-person training on Medicaid, guardianships, collections, or other specific issues you are facing, and provide you with practical tips to optimize your recoveries and improve your business.

We also know that time is money – and every passing day impacts your bottom line. Each month your team gathers for an AR call, problematic accounts are identified, and sent up the chain to management to determine if a legal referral is needed. This process can sometimes take weeks, resulting in missed deadlines and lost recoveries. Why not have a BLG attorney participate in the monthly AR call to maximize efficiency and avoid costly delays? They’ll provide live-time feedback and guidance on the options for collection, the cost-benefit of legal action, and cut out some of the work on your end.

Success is not only measured in the “big wins” but by what you do every day to optimize your operations. Let us share our expertise to help you improve your recoveries.

Email us at blgyourway@burgeonlegal.com  so we can start building a customized experience for your facility. We look forward to working with you to accomplish your goals in 2018!

May all your resolutions, both personal and professional, come true,

Celebrating a New Year by Recovering Benefits back to 2016
Chi Darling knows the value of tenacity when it comes to dealing with managed care plans. She has handled dozens of cases for LTC providers in California where Medi-Cal recipients were dis-enrolled from Medi-Cal and placed in managed health care plans that did not cover LTC.

Recently she secured retroactive disenrollment from a managed care plan and reinstatement of a resident’s Medi-Cal benefits back to 2016. We applaud her grit and determination in cutting through the red tape that providers face when coordinating benefits.
Looking Back, Charging Ahead
Our hats also go off to Nathan Peters for turning a small agency-error into a big recovery! When investigating a denied Medicaid application dating back to September 2016, Nathan discovered a simple mistake - the agency had sent the denial notice to the wrong address.

He was able to use the error to negotiate reopening and approval of the application, recovering over 17 months of Medicaid benefits. A shining example of why it can pay off to look back at denied applications, no matter how old.

Ringing in the New Year with Donations
We couldn't think of a better way to ring in the new year than by donating $5,000 to charity.

With almost 2,000 votes cast and counted we are excited to share the winners of our Five for Five contest: the Angelman Syndrome Foundation , Remote Area Medical , Giving it Forward Together , Myrtle Beach Therapeutic Riding and Vaulting , and Carolina Poodle Rescue .

We are pleased that the organizations represented are so diverse. Angelman Syndrome Foundation and Remote Area Medical help to provide research, support and medical care across the country. Carolina Poodle Rescue rescues and finds homes for small breed dogs along the eastern seaboard. Myrtle Beach Therapeutic Riding and Vaulting and Giving it Forward Together benefit individuals living near our headquarters in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

These five charities are not only geographically diverse but have unique missions that they carry out with perseverance, dedication and passion. From finding a cure to building community, these organizations and those who support them are making a difference and we are so proud to help them along their way.

Thank you to all of you for participating in this contest and for sharing the organizations and causes that are important to you.
