The CCTS Investigator
Accelerating Discoveries Toward Better Health
January 2018
|
|
The OSU CCTS facilitates and supports the translation of scientific discoveries into innovations that improve health. To achieve this mission and advance translational research, the CCTS awards vouchers to provide funding support to investigators from an eligible Ohio State University or Nationwide Children's Hospital core service to enable preliminary work and generate data for new or ongoing projects.
The newest addition to our voucher offerings is New Product Analysis and Prototyping, with support from
The Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence
(CDME). CDME assists researchers as they develop and validate their healthcare innovations, and can perform market screens so that researchers better understand their product’s target market(s); provide design revisions and prototyping of products to validate aspects of innovation; and conduct focus group sessions to capture critical user requirements and other feedback vital for market acceptance of product and navigation of the regulatory pathway.

On Thursday, February 8 at 12:10pm, Professor Nicolas Terry, Indiana University, will deliver a lecture on “Health Data Analytics: Building a New Governance Framework” at the Barrister Club (25 W. 11th Ave.) This presentation will explore how emerging business practices and healthcare technologies such as wearable devices, medical apps, and health data analytics are pressuring the existing medical data regulatory system. Professor Terry will then address the complex policy choices facing technologically-mediated healthcare and its stakeholders in this “second machine age” and examine both present and potential governance models for the health data sector.

Research and Recruitment is an integral part of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science.
The goal of every research study is one that is fully recruited with high retention. In order to make that goal a possibility, research teams are encouraged to
request recruitment and retention consultation
early in the planning and design of their studies.
Consultation is available to help research teams with:
- Understanding potential participants' motivation to enroll in studies
- Design of marketing materials (brochures/flyers/cards)
- Assistance with the process of obtaining IRB approval to use ResearchMatch for recruitment and best practices
- Guidance with listing research studies on StudySearch
- Creating a positive environment for the research team and study participants
- Connecting with the university's marketing and social media opportunities
- Research Informatics Resources, including Clinical Trials Alerts, IHS for research and Information Warehouse requests (feasibility)
- Provide a variety of information via our website
If you have any questions about Study Recruitment and Retention, please contact Rose Hallarn at 614-293-8749 or

The theme of Innovation Lab Vanderbilt is
Staying Power: Developing Lifestyle Interventions that Last
.
Ample research is aimed at achieving weight loss and a wide range of intervention types have significant short-term effectiveness, but few have long-term success. One can accept that this frustrating reality represents a struggle against human nature to return to ingrained patterns, or propose that we are simply not adequately focused on the next step, which is supporting change, preventing relapse and exploiting novel tools to do so.
The application deadline is Feb. 9, 2018.
