A Special Message from O ur Third Grade Teacher:

Dear CES Families,

November is a very special month as families pause in their busy lives to gather together and have the opportunity to be grateful for the many "riches" in their lives. Since my arrival here at CES as the third grade teacher, I have felt right at home --- a welcomed  member of the CES family. I am so thankful to be a part of this caring community.

A program that is dear to my heart is Operation Christmas Child (OCC). This year I have the privilege of being the sponsor for this caring outreach program which is perfectly paired with this month's Cardinal Character, Generosity/Joy.  Students are excited to go shopping with their families to generously pack shoe boxes that will be delivered to children in need all around the world.  During chapel last week, I showed a video about OCC. One of the students noticed and then commented on how happy the children were receiving these boxes. Another student was in awe that a simple shoebox was the first gift many of these children had ever received. This is truly a joy-filled way to put into action "love thy neighbor."

Boxes are due on Wednesday, November 15th, but can be dropped off earlier to the office or my classroom. On Thursday, November 16th we will gather at chapel to say a blessing over the shoeboxes and then pack all of them onto CES the bus. Later in the day, the third graders and I will deliver the boxes to a local collection site.  It is my hope that many of you will choose to participate in our outreach project. Please note there is a suggested $9 donation for each box to help with the processing and shipping. To learrn more about OCC check out this link: . You can actually track your family's box through the website! What fun would that be!

Thank you so much for your support and encouraging generosity to our less fortunate neighbors around the world.

Peace and joy,

Colleen Street

 Operation Christmas Child
In Chapel we have been talking about packing boxes for Operation Christmas Ch ild. Each student has received a brochure entitled "How to pack your Shoebox Gift." Many of you have done this before, and we invite you to join us again this year!

Decide if you want to pack a box for a boy or a girl, then decide the age range (2-4 years, 5-9 years, or 10-14 years.) The brochure tells you all you need to know. Haven't seen that brochure at your house? Check out the Samaritan's Purse website:

Don't forget the boxes  may not be sealed or wrapped closed. (Wrap box and lid separately.) Also, please remember a $9.00 donation needs to be included in each box to cover transportation costs.

Collection Day for shoeboxes is Wednesday, November 15th.
Bring your box to Chapel!

Gift cards should be placed in a sealed envelope addressed to: Card Contest, and sent to your child's teacher via backpack mail.  Include in, or on, the envelope: the child's grade, the name of the donor, total number of cards donated, and amounts of each card donated. (Please be sure to include your name or we won't be able to tell you if you're the winner.) Donation forms will be available in the office should you wish to deduct your donation.

~ S t u d e n t   S p o t l i g h t ~

Christian B. ('25) was recently invited to read to the students at his former preschool. He chose to read  How Do Dinosaurs Go to School,  which is very fitting for the preschoolers who will be going to Kindergarten next fall.  He did such a good job that he was asked to be a reader on a regular basis!

Awesome job, Christian!

Do you know this part of the
Christ Episcopal Community?

The Bargain Box , a thrift and consignment shop sponsored by Christ Episcopal Church, is celebrating 60 years of service this year!  The shop was founded in 1957 and has occupied several different locations, including the current 398 Hungerford Drive, only a few blocks from CES.  It sells clothing and household items at very affordable prices and has a free clothing program for referrals from social service agencies. The store is 100% volunteer staffed by members and friends of Christ Church. Bargain Box proceeds support outreach programs in the local community including food banks, shelters, low income health support and other similar programs.

The Bargain Box is a great place to donate new or gently used clothing, jewelry, books, toys, household items, and many other treasures you no longer need or want.  We are happy to provide you with a receipt for tax purposes.  We don't accept TV sets, textbooks, large sporting goods or fitness equipment, safety seats and a few other items.  For a more complete list, see our website at or call us at 301-762-2242.  Better yet, come by and see us at the store, and do a little shopping too!  Our hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  You can also "like" us on Facebook at .

You never know who you will find at the Bargain Box!     p: 301-424-6550     f: 301-424-3516
