 Happy Friday!

Ten days until winter break!  It is hard to believe that the first semester of school is almost over.  Over the course of the next two weeks every student will be taking the middle of the year Dibels assessment which measures students' overall reading ability.  Additionally students in grades 3-5 will finish taking the Acuity Readiness test that started this week.  Please talk with your child about his/her performance on both of these assessments.  There are several events taking place these next 10 days.  Please be sure you check the calendar section of the newsletter for more information.

Next week, PSG is collecting change and having a "change wars" competition among all classes.  The winning class who brings in the most money will win a snow ball fight with me during their class party on the 18th.  If the entire school reaches or exceeds a goal of $300, I will wear a snowman suit all day on Friday, December 18th.

Finally, I want to celebrate those students who clipped up to red.  I am so proud of all of our students but especially proud of these students for the behavior choices they've been making.  These students include:

Zachary Barber
Bryce Garland
Amelia Green
Pacie Garland
Lucy Rhoderick
Thandi George
Eve Collins
Carter Miller
Michael Carlson
Evan Embree
Noah Harvey
Parker Moore

Have a super weekend!

LOST AND FOUND ITEMS
There are many items in our lost and found.  If these items are not claimed before December 18th, they will be donated to a local charity.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Our character trait for November and December is COMPASSION: being kind to others. During classroom guidance lessons, we frequently talk about the importance of thinking of others. If we were the only one in our world, we could just think about what we want and be a "just me" person! However, since we-staff, students, and parents-are part of a larger school community, it doesn't work to be "just us" people. Compassion means we are putting ourselves in others' shoes and trying to understand what they are feeling, then doing something kind to help. During the week, make a point of recognizing when your child shows compassion!

BODY SAFETY
We will be having our annual body safety lessons in December.  The program consists of age appropriate lessons that will be taught to your child by the elementary school counselor.  Unfortunately, recent counts show that sexual abuse of children takes place more often than we would like to believe.  As a result, our children need to be taught assertiveness and self-protection skills to prevent such tragedies.  This program is presented in a non-threatening, informative way.
Parents, please check the E-Friday Folder for important information regarding body safety and how to discuss this topic with your child.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Miller at 852-1036 ext. 1218.

EDUCATION INFORMATION
The next steps on your student's educational journey...

HEARING SCREENING INFORMATION
Indiana State law requires students in grades 1, 4, 7, and 10 to have their hearing screened. All kindergarten students and all students new to BCSC will be tested as well. The Brownsburg Speech- Language Pathologists will be conducting hearing screenings at each school.  In an effort to conserve paper, only students who do not pass their hearing screenings will receive paperwork. (If your child does not pass their hearing screening, you will be notified of pass/did not pass results when a rescreening is done.)
Please contact me if you have any questions.
