Happy Friday!

We end this week with the end of the 3rd quarter.  I can't believe we only have about nine weeks of school left in the 15-16 school year.  Where has the time gone?  Next Friday, you will be able to view your child's report card in PowerSchool.  Please take some time to review this with your child and discuss his/her progress throughout the year.

This week our 1st and 2nd graders had their music programs.  Each grade level did a fantastic job.  First grade's music through the decades performance was unbelievable.  It was also so much fun to see our 2nd graders and their families enjoying music together.  Thank you all for attending.

Next Friday, we will celebrate our upcoming two week break with class parties.  Students love the games and activities our volunteers create.  Thank you to all who put in the extra time to plan the parties and ensure that our students have fun.

Finally, I want to celebrate those students who clipped up to red.  I am so proud of all of our students but especially proud of these students for the behavior choices they've been making.  These students include:

Lauren Harris
Kylee Lyngholm
Amelia Green
Rowben Matheney
Nate Deardorff
Rylee Schrader
Brenna Fruits
Pete Rothenberger
Sean Warman
Nadia Cloyd
Lindsay Scott
Sofia Ledesma
Ellie Robison
Max Velikan

Have a super weekend!

SPIRIT DAYS NEXT WEEK!
To get ready for Spring Break, let's celebrate every day:

*    March into Madness MONDAY by wearing your favorite college gear! Cardinal's FINAL FOUR days before spring break are just a lay-up away!
*    TWINSY TUESDAY! Find a friend and make a plan to dress alike. Matching team uniforms or our Cardinal t-shirt are totally twin-like options. To which twin will you pair up to double your Tuesday fun?
*    Which way to the beach--Wednesday! Flip-flop your way to school on Wednesday, but don't forget to look too cool for school in your favorite pair of shades! (Warning label-don't forget to pack along some tennis shoes for recess!)
*    TOP O' the St. Patty's Day Thursday!  Take a try at the luck of the Irish by dressing in your GREENS!
*    It's B-Burg Friday! Pull out your Brownsburg purple for a TOP DOG challenge!  Classes will vote on their "Most Brownsburg-d" classmate!  Winners will enjoy a PHOTO OPPORTUNITY for the Cardinal Chronicle with the other DOG-GONE BEST!  Now that's something to BARK ABOUT!
Nurse Notes
We have had an increased number of students coming to school ill over the last few weeks.  Use common sense when deciding whether or not your child is too ill to attend school.  Ask yourself the following questions.
*    Is my child well enough to do the activities of the school day? If not, keep your child at home.
*    Does my child have a condition that could be passed on to other children or school staff? If so, keep your child at home.
*    Would I take a day off work if I had this condition?  If so, keep your child at home.

The following guidelines will be used in determining when to send (or keep) a child home:
1.  Fever > 100 F.  Children who are ill should be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication before attending school.
2.  Witnessed vomiting or diarrhea (defined as 3 or more liquid stools in a 12-hour period.)  Children who are ill should be free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours before attending school.
3.  Suspicion of untreated conjunctivitis, or pink eye (redness of the whites of the eyes with purulent drainage).  If pink eye is diagnosed, drops need to be used for 24 hours before attending school.
4.  Suspicious rashes that may be contagious.
5.  Injury that may require further evaluation and treatment.
6.  Untreated head lice- presence of live lice.
7.  Suspicion of an untreated contagious condition.  If an infection has been diagnosed, children need to be on antibiotics for 24 hours before attending school.
8.  A condition or illness that is causing such severe symptoms that the student is unable to function in class.  Examples include severe headaches, continuous cough, persistent stomachache, etc.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our students healthy!

Sincerely,Mrs. Hurd, RN BSN

Counselor's Character Corner
The character trait for the month of March and April is Acceptance.  Acceptance means recognizing and showing appreciation for our differences.  It is important to recognize things that make others around you special.  It is also important to show acceptance to others.  Talk to your children about how they can show acceptance toward others.  Could they ask someone that is playing alone to join them at recess?  Can they help someone that is struggling to do something on their own?   Could they talk with someone they don't know well in class and make a new friend?  Everyone is special and YOU can help them feel that way.

One of the most important things your child can do to achieve academic success is also one of the most basic: going to school every day. In fact, research has shown that your child's attendance record may be the biggest factor influencing their academic success.

Benefits of daily attendance

By attending class regularly, your child is more likely to keep up with the daily lessons and assignments, and take quizzes and tests on time.
Achievement:  Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who don't attend school regularly.

Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.

The importance of education: Your commitment to school attendance will also send a message to your child that education is a priority for your family, going to school every day is a critical part of educational success, and that it's important to take your responsibilities seriously including going to school.

By making your child's school attendance a priority, you will be taking an important step in supporting your child's school success, and setting a good example. Remember every day counts!

Update on Heart & Sole

Hendricks County Waste Management sends a thank you to all who participated in the used shoe drive.  Cardinal collected 501 pairs, the most shoes in Brownsburg, and Mrs. Holstein has already ordered $250 worth of environmental books from Barnes & Noble for our library as our award!

"First of all, a great big "thank you" from the bottom of our hearts to all of you for participating in this year's "Recycle: Heart and Sole" shoe reuse event.  Thanks to your efforts, we were able to donate 3,112 pairs of shoes to Changing Footprints!  That is incredible!

Thank you to ALL who participated!"
