Happy Friday Cardinal Families:

Now that we are into September, I wanted to be sure you are aware that we have passed the halfway point for the first quarter.  I want to encourage each of you who has a student in 1st-5th grades to log into PowerSchool and check your child's grades.  Teachers update the grade book regularly to show how well the students are performing in class and how well they are understanding the material.  After you look at your child's grades, spend some time talking to him/her about them so that your child knows how well he/she is doing at this point in the year.  Here is the link to PowerSchool.  If you aren't sure what your username and password are, please contact the Cardinal office.  https://powerschool.brownsburg.k12.in.us/public/home.htm

We are very close to our Red Bird Run, and I am excited about the changes the PSG has in place for this year.  We would love to have you participate or volunteer on the afternoon of September 18th.  It will take many hands to make sure this event is a success.  You and your child can also begin discussing who you might ask for pledges or donations.  The Red Bird Run is the PSG's largest fundraiser and allows them to put money back into the classrooms for the students.  Thank you so much for your support with this.

Have you considered test driving a car, but you don't want to have to face the pressure of purchasing it?  The Brownsburg Education Foundation is giving you the opportunity to test drive a Ford vehicle without any strings attached.  On September 10th from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Brownsburg East Middle School, the BEF and Bill Estes Ford will be hosting a fundraiser called Drive 4 UR School.  People are encouraged to come drive a Ford vehicle, and for every person who drives, Bill Estes will donate money to the Education Foundation.  If you are able to make it, please be sure that you let them know you are supporting Cardinal Elementary.  We would like to be the school with the most participation.

It's exciting for me to recognize students for their excellent behavior choices over the course of the week by announcing and publishing the students who have clipped up to red on our behavior chart.  Each week there are different students acknowledged, which is very exciting to see.  The students this week are:

Lucy Arkanoff
Abigail McCarty
Jaxon Rogers
Chloe Chandler
Cameryn Brown
Dylan Sessoms
Joy Bratcher
Ellis Burton
Logan Copley
Pacie Garland
Jaxson LeMieux
Sophia Bryant
Jeremy Wachman
Kaydence Roach
Vincent LaCroix

I hope your family enjoys the three-day weekend.  I am sure the students are ready for a small break as I know the teachers could use an extra day to catch up on some sleep.  Try to stay cool!

Yankee Candle Sale Begins September 11th
The 15th Annual Yankee Candle fundraiser for the Brownsburg Education Foundation (BEF) is around the corner.  On Friday, September 11th, each student will receive a catalog to share with family and friends. The best and easiest way to order is online and you will find the instructions for sending the link for online ordering to your family and friends in the packet. Online orders will be delivered directly to the one ordering by mail in 2-3 weeks. If the paper order form is used, the order form and money need to be returned by September 28th to Reagan. You will have to pick up and distribute anything ordered using the paper order form on November 10th & 11th at the BCSC Maintenance Facility at 550 Airport Road.  Proceeds from this fundraiser go toward teacher educational grants and student scholarships that are given out each year by the BEF whose mission is to encourage and support creativity, innovation, and excellence that will enhance the educational community of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Character: This month's character trait is responsibility. Responsibility is being accountable for what you say and do, all of your choices are your own. Take some time with your student to discuss the following topics:
*    All of your choices are your own.  To be responsible you can complete and turn in your work on time, keep your school materials in the right places, and treat others with respect.  This week think about ways that you can show responsibility at school.
*    Why is responsibility important?  Think of what would happen if a firefighter didn't do his job?  People might get hurt and property would get damaged.  Responsibility is important because it helps us to stay safe in our communities, treat others with kindness, and be better learners at school.
*    How will being responsible help you prepare yourself for middle school?

Cardinal Red Bird Run

Cardinal PSG is hosting the Red Bird Run - our largest fundraiser - on September 18.  For this year's Red Bird Run, students ask friends and relatives for a flat pledge amount. Each student will have 30 minutes to jog or walk around the track and participate in fun outdoor activities.

All students will receive a t-shirt on the day of the run. This t-shirt will also be used by all students for Field Day at the end of the school year.  Students who collect at least $25 dollars in donations will receive an extra recess and a special snack in October.

Prizes for the student who collect the most donations are:

*     First prize: a $100 Target gift card

*    Second Prize: $75 Target gift card

*    Third Prize: $50 Target gift card

*     Fourth & Fifth Prizes:  $25 Target Gift card

Our goal for the Cardinal Red Bird Run is $12,000. Although this goal may seem lofty, it is very attainable.  If every student at Cardinal collected only $25 dollars we would reach our $12,000, which nearly covers half of our entire PSG budget for the 2015-2016 school year.
