Angel Tree Celebration Delivers Gifts to More Than 2,500 Children in Care
|

More than 2,200 people attended the annual Fostering Futures Angel Tree celebration held last month at Wirtz Beverage in North Las Vegas, an exclusive event for children and families in care. Some 1,500 children who attended received gifts, gift cards and other goodies...including games, lunch and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus!
Including post-event distribution efforts, more than 2,500 children in Clark County care received gifts for the holidays, thanks to the annual Angel Tree drive.

Organizers said attendance at this year's event was greater than last year.

The bicycle raffle was a popular offering at Angel Tree. More than 50 bikes, donated by Wynn Las Vegas, were raffled off to lucky winners.

In addition to gifts and gift cards, those in attendance enjoyed games, bounce houses, food and other family-friendly activities.

Women of Metro Deliver Holiday Cheer to Children at Child Haven

LVMPD's Women of Metro weren't driving a sleigh, but they did bring a busload of gifts--and Santa Claus!--to the Child Haven campus to give children in care gifts of games, toys and more.

Attention: Foster Parents
Training Requirements to Increase in 2017
Beginning Jan. 1, 2017, training requirements for foster parents will change from four hours per year to 12 hours, annually. This change was
initiated by foster parents through the Quality Parenting Initiative Training workgrou
p, which meets monthly to discuss training needs for caregivers.
Training hours must include the following classes:
- First Aid/CPR training
- Car seat training
- The Developmental Web: A Perspective on Learning and Behavior Problems
- Effective Discipline in Developmental Stages
- Trauma and the Impacts on Children in Foster Care: Parts 1 and 2.
Again, this change goes into effect next year, January of 2017. Foster Parents who are relicensing beginning January of 2017 will be required to have 12 hours of training BEFORE they can be relicensed.
Why the Change?
Foster parents in the QPI Training workgroup identified the need for additional training. This requested change will assist them in preparing to handle the diverse health, behavioral and emotional needs of the children in their care. Additional training will give caregivers the tools to meet the needs of children in foster care. The trainers, as part of the team, will provide support as we all strive to ensure the permanency, safety and well-being of foster children.
